* Seeing Green

Posted on November 12th, 2010 by Kate. Filed under Favors, Flowers, Wedding Inspiration.

Our eco-expert, Tracy DiNunzio, just sent over some great tips for making green wedding planning choices- all the while saving some green!  So if you’re looking for ways to budget better– read more here.  In the meantime, here are some gorgeous photos from a real green wedding on an organic farm– plus some of our other favorite green goods!

Robin and Ken wed at Highland Springs Resort in Cherry Valley, California.  Robin is a botanist and Ken is a Biology professor; the two celebrated their love of nature and for each other with an exquisite wedding that was easy on the planet.  The day was photographed by Los Angeles-based photographer, Desi Baytan, and coordinated by LaDawn Williams. The all-organic florals were designed and provided by Irises Designs.

One easy way to create less impact on the environment is to be mindful when choosing your wedding favors.  You can find eco-friendly wedding favors in our shop!  Use coupon code: 5206TEN for 10% off any favor order between now and November 13, 2010.

Other planet-friendly favor options include making a donation in lieu of favors, giving guests tree seedlings in support of the Arbor Day Foundation, or purchasing pink ribbon wildflower seed cards in support of young women living with breast cancer.

Whichever way you spin it… a little bit of thought can go a long way!  Read more about saving money by planning green here.

* Praying for a Breeze …

Posted on September 22nd, 2010 by Jeannie. Filed under Wedding Inspiration.

My wedding journey is almost at its end — with just 4 days left to be exact! What will I be doing the next several days? Working on a chalkboard seating chart ( loving the chalkboard everything!), putting together toffee treat favors ( made with love by my mom), hoping that it isn’t 100 degrees on Sunday, getting in a few final workouts and trying to stay “in the happy moment.”

I have had wedding nightmares this whole week — and can truly say that I appreciate what a huge task it is putting together this event. You don’t really know the intense multi-tasking, stress, family issues and cost that it all entails until you go through it.   My final piece of advice: enlist some help from a planning-savvy friend or hire a coordinator if you are able to. Kristeen LaBrot of Kristeen LaBrot Events has been helping me out of the goodness of her heart and I wouldn’t have been able to get everything done without her resources, contacts, energy and brilliant ideas! It’s also been fantastic to get your unbiased thoughts, opinions and feedback — so thank you for that! See you in October - with photos and updates!

We released the inspiration board tool last week and so far it’s been a huge hit with PW brides! I’m loving all the creativity people are showing and of course the eye candy is to die for. Here are some of my favorites…

First this one by Laura Sweet… Who doesn’t love a beautiful rustic outdoor wedding?

And then of course the most amazing trash the dress session ever in the history of time, by our very own Tovaqt

And I love the romance and candlelight in this inspiration board by msdl

Mixing and matching wedding colors can sometimes be tricky, but when it’s done well it can be absolutely awe-inspiring. That’s why I was so excited to see the colorful mix of flowers and bridesmaids dresses from Emily and Greg’s wedding on the shores of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Truly inspiring!

* A Destination Hometown Wedding

Posted on March 10th, 2010 by Kate. Filed under Destination Weddings, Reception, Things we heart, Wedding Inspiration.

One Lovely Day welcomes Mary, lifestyle blogger and creative bride-to-be, as she plans her fabulously fun and breezy ‘destination hometown’ wedding.  You can catch a daily dose of Mary’s style on Olivet.

I’ve been engaged for nearly 2 years and since the day I said yes, I had the hardest time finding the right location, dress, and vendors for our wedding… until two weeks ago.  My fiance, Tim, and I live in Orlando, Florida.  In early February we decided to have a ‘Destination Hometown’ wedding in Melbourne Beach, Florida (about an hour and a half away). It was really important that we find a place where guests could have a relaxing weekend and walk everywhere they need to go, including our ceremony, reception and rehearsal dinner.

Ceremony: Melbourne Beach Community Chapel

I am a huge history buff, so I was thrilled when I read that The Community Chapel of Melbourne Beach was built in 1892. It has withstood hurricane after hurricane for over a century and is incredibly charming! The chapel is on the same street as the Bed & Breakfast where we’ll be staying, as well as the reception site.
Reception: Ryckman Park
Having the reception at a public park is a great, affordable alternative to a private estate or residence. I was inspired to have an outdoor wedding after spotting this wedding in the first Martha Stewart Weddings magazine I ever bought, in Summer 2008, when I got engaged. I was instantly drawn to the details, soft colors, and overflowing flowers used in the bouquet, table settings, lanterns - everything. I recently designed an invitation suite at invitationconsultants.com (and pictured above), similar to the one used in their wedding. I loved seeing the peach favors last summer on Sunday Suppers and will be doing the same thing but with locally grown oranges (leaves still attached)!
Rehearsal: Dinner on the Beach

I love, love having dinner on the beach, it’s one of my favorite things to do. Since the beach is right across the street from the B&B and only 0.4 miles from the chapel, it was a no brainer. I quickly saved these images by Rolland Bello when I saw them on Frolic! a while back.
Our immediate family and bridal party will be staying at the Port D’Hiver Bed and Breakfast. Port D’Hiver is a very special place. It used to be an old abandoned house when I was a little girl. My family and I used to drive past it every time we would go to the beach or visit my grandparents. I could have sworn that one day it would be torn down and turned into a CVS, but it wasn’t. About 5 years ago a couple rescued and restored it to the Bed & Breakfast that it is today. Tim’s stepdad actually did the electrical work for the project, (small world huh)?!  I think it will be the perfect place to share a great weekend and get ready for such a special day!
