Niyati and Shashank were married at The Westin Pasadena in Pasadena, Calif. on August 31. Niyati looked beautiful in a traditional bright pink and orange sari. She accessorized with a jeweled headpiece, a gold collar necklace, matching bangles, and henna art on her hands. The groom looked handsome in a white sherwani with gold embroidery, a red scarf, and a bejeweled red wedding turban. “We wanted a bright, colorful, and fun wedding. It was really important for us to enjoy the wedding and make sure our guests were having fun,” Niyati explained. The couple incorporated Indian and Hindu traditions into their wedding ceremony, which was complete with a baraat, where the groom rode  in on a horse and the groom’s family danced around him. “Even though it was hot, Shashank’s family participated fully in the baraat by dancing for almost an hour!” Niyati said. The bride was then walked to the alter under a brightly colored scarf. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the hotel for the 220 family members and friends in attendance. Guests sat at tables with orange and yellow floral centerpieces. The newlyweds surprised everyone during their first dance by breaking into a flash mob with family members to the song “Happy” by Pharrell. After dinner, traditional Indian desserts were passed around on a silver platter. Niyati advises couples not to sweat the small stuff. “Try to remember that it is your wedding but don’t be too rigid about every little detail.” See the full board here.

Janke + Mitchell: Blue and White Chic Australian Spring Wedding by iZO Photography

Ken Lee; Reception Music: Ben Lee

Janke and Mitchell were married at Fremantle Town Hall, followed by a reception at Moore and Moore Cafe in Fremantle, Western Australia on April 19. Janke looked stunning in a custom cap sleeve gown with a scoop neck and lace peplum waist. She donned her hair in a fishtail braid and carried a beautiful bouquet of proteas, roses, and seeded eucalyptus. “I wanted to use proteas as a focus as I am originally from South Africa,” Janke explained. Her ‘maids opted for short sleeve mint and navy beaded dresses and carried bouquets of king proteas and baby’s breath tied together with a long navy ribbon. The groom and his men looked handsome in fitted navy suits and skinny black neck ties. The ceremony took place at the Fremantle Town Hall, which features a stage with bronzed curtains. “We remembered the Fremantle Town Hall – a beautiful old venue in the center of town…making a pretty amazing backdrop for a wedding ceremony,” Janke said of the space. As the pair recessed down the aisle after the knot was tied, friends and family tossed eucalyptus leaves at the newlyweds. A cocktail-style reception followed, which allowed guests to mingle throughout the evening, versus sitting down at a single table for the entire reception. As an alternative to the traditional guest book, Janke and Mitchell asked friends and family to take a photo of themselves and write their name! They enjoyed signature cocktails, Red Bull Vodkas and Pimm’s, as well as a mixture of local and South African cuisine. Various cakes were arranged on a dessert table around the wedding cake for guests to indulge in. Janke suggests not stressing out about the little details. “You don’t need it all, we went without a lot of the trimmings and no on even noticed,” she said. See the full board here.

Lisa Marie + Selim: Intimate Handmade Summer Estate Wedding by Samantha Ong Photography
Posted by Sarah Title. Filed under Real Weddings

stitchPhotos: Samantha Ong Photography; Gown: Truvelle; Groom’s Attire: Holt Renfrew and Banana Republic; Jeweler: Swarovski; Shoes: Mossimo; Photo Shoot Venue: Dundurn Castle; Bridesmaid Dresses: twobirds Bridesmaid; Venue: Kretz Estates; Hair and Makeup: Irene Marshall

Lisa Marie and Selim were married at Kretz Estates in Burlington, Ontario, Canada on June 14. The bride wore a gorgeous flowy dress with a beaded bodice and chiffon skirt. It was handmade from fabrics found at the grand bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey. She donned a high curly updo accented with crystal hair pins and carried a large bouquet of purple roses and greenery. Her ‘maids looked stunning in mix-and-match deep v-neck dresses. The bridal party also had their hands painted in henna to honor Selim’s Turkish heritage. The groom looked dapper in a gray three-piece suit, while his men wore gray dress pants, suspenders, and purple bow ties. The pair tied the knot in front of 100 family members and friends that traveled a great distance from many places to be with them on their special day. They exchanged vows under an arch made of branches and adorned with bright flowers and white tulle fabric. A reception followed at the estates. “We hand made our wedding ourselves from our wedding favors, bouquets, center pieces, wedding arch, invitations…It was really lovely getting to be so involved and have the little details be exactly how we pictured,” Lisa Marie described. Their reception decor featured a display of Polaroid pictures of the newlyweds, paper lanterns, and a big wire heart topped with flowers and a photo of the couple’s engagement. Guests sat at long tables with white linens, brown place mats, tiny birdcages, and chalkboard table numbers set inside mini succulent tins. “We found a lot of inspiration through Instagram and Pinterest , we fell in love with the more bohemian/DIY weddings,” Lisa Marie says of their wedding inspiration.  For dessert, guests indulged in a cupcake-shaped cake decorated with white rosettes and purple polka dots. Lisa Marie encourages DIY projects, but not too many. “Pinterest is a great source for inspiration, however thinking you can complete X number of projects on your own is somewhat wishful thinking,” she said.
