Amy + Kenn: A Sweet St. John Wedding by Carina Skrobecki Photography

Posted on May 13th, 2013 by Sarah Zlotnick. Filed under Real Weddings.

Consider this week’s real wedding a mini vacation you can take right at your desk! Amy and Kenn got hitched this past December in stunning St. John. They said ‘I do’ against a backdrop of clear blue water and lush island greenery, and we love the way they let the easy-going nature of the locale dictate a similar vibe for their nuptials. From Amy’s beachy updo to bridesmaids in mismatched dresses and sunnies, the details in this couple’s big day are sure to delight! Thanks to Carina Skrobecki for sharing the photos with us—you can see even more shots in the full gallery.

Fashion Friday: 4 Reasons to Love Illusion Straps

Posted on May 10th, 2013 by Sarah Zlotnick. Filed under Bridal Fashion, Bridal Market Spring 2014.

Fanciful bead work and embroidery were two major trends we spotted on the Spring 2014 runway, and we especially loved the way it showed up on sheer fabric. We’ve already covered illusion necklines,  and today we’re zeroing in on a smaller amount of fabric. Substantial illusion straps add just enough sparkle to otherwise simple gowns, and we love the way the look subtly draws attention to the bride’s face. Below follows four of our favorite varieties of the look!

no. 3 Kenneth Pool • no. 4 Ines Di Santo

Tara + Harris: A Crafty Virginia Winery Wedding by Aaron Watson Photography

Posted on May 9th, 2013 by Sarah Zlotnick. Filed under Real Weddings.

From the Peruvian cookie favors to over 400 yards of ribbon bunting, you will not believe the amount of personal crafting time Tara, Harris, and family put into this cheerful Virginia wedding. The adorable couple (who met at a summertime “nerd school” between their junior and senior years of high school) enlisted nearly everyone they knew in creating the unique details of their special day, and the results are beyond impressive. Special thanks to Aaron Watson for sending these fun images over! We’re delighted to share the story.

The DIYing started with the ceremony. Harris’s father built, stained, and assembled the arch under which they exchanged vows. The moss initials were a surprise gift from the bride’s mother and aunt—the duo assembled them by covering paper maché letters purchased at a local craft store with moss mats. The ceremony fans (which depict the wedding party in cute cartoons) were designed by a family friend, printed at OfficeMax, and also assembled by the bride’s mother and aunt.

DIY Wednesday: Stained Glass Photo Project

Posted on May 8th, 2013 by Kate. Filed under DIY Wednesday, Do It Yourself.

Many couples display their engagement photos at the reception. Here is one creative way to showcase them in style. Hung in the windows of your venue, this simple photo project transforms your love shoot into custom “stained glass.”  With Mother’s Day on our mind, we can’t help but think that this would also be a sweet gift for mom this weekend!

Materials: Printer, Tissue Paper, Embroidery Hoops or Backless Frames, Scissors, Engagement Photo Files

Step One. Print a selection of your favorite engagement photos onto white tissue wrapping paper. The easiest way to print on this type of paper is by taping it completely to a piece of computer paper and running it through an inkjet printer. You can also take the photos and tissue paper to your local copy store.

Step Two. Cut the printed photos to size by tracing the shape of the frame and trimming down with scissors.

Step Three. Carefully, take apart the embroidery hoop and position the cut photo as you would fabric. Secure the hoop and tighten if needed.

Step Four. String simple embroidery thread through the loop at the top of each hoop and hang in a window.
