Emily + Ben: A Vintage Tennessee Wedding by Gideon Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

From fond farewells to an emotional first look, Emily and Ben’s sweet Southern wedding is filled with special moments. Their vintage-inspired affair took place on a cool October day on the grounds of the Heartwood Hall estate just outside of Memphis, Tennessee, and we love how they blended traditional rustic touches with a modern hipster aesthetic. Special thanks to Gideon Photography for sharing photos from the day with us! You can view even more details in the full gallery.

Emily and Ben originally met at a conference in Monterey, California. She ended up moving from Tennessee to California to intern at the church that hosted the conference, and Ben happened to be a youth pastor at the very same church. He waited a full year for her to complete her internship before asking her on their first date with an elaborate scavenger hunt. The duo exchanged vows back in Tennessee during the Fall of Emily’s twenty-first year, which had always been a dream for the bride.

Romantic Luxe Portrait Session by Joel Bedford Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Photography

I can’t tell you how in love with this portrait session I am.  The couple?  So gorgeous. The flowers?  Stunning. That Reem Acra gown?  Totally dreamy.  Joel Bedford did such an incredible job with this one.  Mat and Shannon have been together for a very long time (since 1999)!  and they married in a destination wedding a few years back.  After having their first son, Beau, and returning to Ottawa- the city where they met- it was the perfect time to relive the wedding experience. Justyna and Joel took the lead producing a romantic, luxe portrait session for them.  Feast your eyes, friends…

Michelle VandenBosch designed the stunning textured bouquet of orchids, cock’s comb and dahlias. It’s downright one of the most beautiful fall bouquets I’ve ever laid eyes on.   Shannon’s side braid was accented by a few pretty blooms creating a look of relaxed, natural luxury.

A big thanks to Justyna and Joel… and many congratulations to Shannon and Mat on thirteen years together!

Butterfly Garden Wedding by Jessica Garmon
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

This botanical garden wedding- in the butterfly house, nonetheless, at the Texas Discovery Gardens– is a gorgeous little throwback to the good ‘ol days.  Bobbye and Josh envisioned a wedding complete with their vintage style, homegrown and handmade design initiatives, massive fun, and a focus on family and friends. The yellow palette, framed around Josh’s heirloom pick-up truck, was paired with olive greens and grey accents, and the darling butterfly theme was the icing on the cake. The couple’s dear friend and photographer, Jessica Garmon, captured everything so fittingly in film… portraying the sweet and sentimental day to a t.

Bobbye wore a ruffled Camille la Vie gown and 1950’s lemon-yellow hat that she discovered on Etsy.  Usually, when we talk about handcrafted weddings, we’re speaking of the centerpieces, the favors… that sort of thing. With the help of her Aunt and a few dear friends, Bobbye did all of that, but also endeavored to sew the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses!  Now that’s impressive.  Sugar City Sweets & Celebrations designed the sunny yellow bouquets and handled the coordination so that the couple could just relax and enjoy on the day-of…

Both music-lovers, the couple met at a record store as they were perusing the selection.  Josh approached Bobbye, trying to impress her with his encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock. They moved their conversation to a nearby coffeeshop where they talked for hours and closed the place down.  Soon after, the pair started dating. The ceremony was intimate and meaningful, amongst lush gardens and busy butterflies.  One hundred and fifty guests watched from a sky bridge above.

I swear, the sweetness in their portraits is tangible!  And it continued into the afternoon reception of champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and Texas craft beers. Adornments of crocheted doilies, dozens of milk glass vessels, and bright yellow blooms filled the space with truly unforgettable vintage beauty.

The couple danced and cut the cake, then invited their guests to an after party at the Hotel Belmont in Oak Cliff. The mid-century modern hotel is one of their favorite spots – with a breathtaking view of downtown Dallas.

It had always been Josh’s dream to drive off from his wedding in the 1973 Dodge D100 Custom truck that he received from his Grandfather after high school graduation.  And it was a dream come true. Be sure to read a more detailed description of the heartfelt and handmade elements down below.

Happy wishes to this creative and classy duo!

Houseboat Engagement Session by Jessica Lorren Organic Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Engagements, Photography, Things we heart

Jessica Lorren is one of those photographers who makes everything she captures look just utterly gorgeous.  Add in a houseboat on the coast and one beautiful couple and the scene was set.  It’s our total pleasure to share Jared and Natalie’s intimate engagement session, photographed in southern Florida.

Jessica describes Jared and Natalie as incredibly sweet and so much fun. They actually lived on this houseboat together for two years and named it the Three Little Birds after themselves and their pup Jobi. Jared is a dive boat captain and Natalie works with him. Their May wedding will have a nautical theme so the boat was just the right place for their engagement shoot.

Sigh… there’s just nothing like good film work…

Congratulations Jared + Natalie!
