* Marissa + Alex: Soft Pink Hawaiian Soirée by Joanna Tano Photography
Posted on March 12th, 2013 by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings.
Marissa and Alex describe their connection like ‘yin and yang,’ absolutely made for one another. They both attended the University of Washington, but didn’t meet until a month before Alex was supposed to return to his home in Maui. Knowing that they had discovered something very special, Alex changed his plan to reside in Maui indefinitely, and returned to Seattle to be with Marissa after dating long distance for a year. The pair envisioned an intimate celebration… simple, romantic, and understated. Three words that make us swoon! (And we haven’t even mentioned the breathtaking setting at Haiku Mill in Maui). You’ll have to just see for yourself! Special thanks to Joanna Tano for sharing these effortlessly romantic wedding photos…
The day was blissfully warm, with sunlight streaming thru the glass canopy over the ceremony site. Drenched in lush tropical foliage, the property’s remarkable, repurposed sugar mill hosted the couple’s ’I dos’ amidst eighty loved ones. The choice to celebrate at Haiku Mill was a serendipitous one; on the day-of, they discovered that Marissa’s great grandfather likely worked at the mill eighty years before!
* A Sunset Real Wedding in Maui by James Rubio

I’m so happy to have not one, but two incredible destination weddings to share with you this week! Jocelyn and Frederick’s wedding is super special to us, as she is a beloved hostess on Project Wedding. In fact, you might remember when we featured her bio! It’s packed with all of her inspirations and planning… so if you’re as in love with their big day as I am, you’ll definitely want to pour over every last bit of her planning process. In the meantime, I could look at these photos by James Rubio for days…

Jocelyn looks so utterly happy… I love how Aeleise at Hair Love Art Studio worked with her natural curl in a pretty, upswept style. And those florals…I’m gushing! Dellables used peach dahlias, gold ranunculus, white and green orchids and bold pink peonies to design the bouquets. The soft ceremony palette seamlessly transformed into richer hues for the reception, with common threads of coral, peach, and gold.

Jocelyn and Frederick married in an early evening ceremony, under an archway of coral fabric and hanging orchids… too pretty for words if you ask me!

These two met at work and, according to Jocelyn, they drove each other crazy from the start. They were constantly at odds with one another. But, the more they talked, the more chemistry they realized they had. Eventually they started to chat on the phone… which turned into a nightly thing… and it was evident that a romance was brewing. Five years later, Jocelyn and Frederick married in Maui!

The couple celebrated their vows with a nighttime party at Mala Wailea. Soft golden uplighting and more beautiful hanging flowers created a romantic ambiance.
A special thanks to Jocelyn for being such a fabulous hostess on PW and for sharing your day with us!

Joanna Tano must not have much spare time, because she keep sending over lovely wedding after lovely wedding! (And we’re thrilled to share them)! Today’s classic love affair takes us to the beaches of Maui, for Amanda and Marc’s pristinely planned wedding among the sand and palm trees. With the help of Lori Lawrence from Tropical Maui Weddings, they wove a gorgeous palette of coral, sand, and ivory tones into their intimate, destination wedding day.

* Chic Hawaii Wedding by Joanna Tano Photography

When I saw these photos, I completely fell in love with this beaming, happy couple. The bride, Gabriella, grew up in Maui and always dreamed of having her wedding there. She met Zach when they were freshman in college at Northeastern University in Boston. It was love at first sight for Zach, but it took a few years for Gabriella to fall head over heels. Here’s a peek at their barefoot beach wedding and chic, candlelit reception. {Photos by Joanna Tano Photography}.

The couple wanted the ceremony and reception to be an organic reflection of the Hawaiian landscape and their modern style. Gabriella wore a sophisticated, beach-casual dress by Judd Waddell; the groom was adorned by a gorgeous leigh of greenery. The breezy sunset ceremony on the beach was followed by a full moon gathering at a private residence. I’m in awe of the incredible candlelight and chic black and white tablescapes…
Isn’t the black and white palette just so stunning?!
Sweet wishes to this lovely pair!
