Molly + Sam: A Science-Inspired Chicago Rooftop Hotel Wedding By Emily Alt Photography

Molly and Sam’s chose to get married on June 21, 2013, which was the summer solstice — the longest day of the year — at Chicago’s Lincoln Park. “We are both nature lovers, and pretty active,” Molly said. “We had spent plenty of time running, biking, going to the beach, and picnicking [there].” Molly’s wedding day attire was all J.Crew from the gown to necklace and matching pair of earrings, bridesmaids wore different shades of coral and carried wildflower bouquets, and instead of wearing a boutonniere, Sam wore a pin. A trellis, inspired by an Anthropologie window display, of paper flowers served as an arbor. “Park-goers and passers-by stopped to watch and offered their congratulations,” she said. “As Sam and I recessed down our very long aisle, there was a group of school kids clapping and cheering us the whole way.” Directions to the hotel reception were displayed on the back of the ceremony programs. The couple made their own floral arrangements using test tube racks, beakers and flasks, and a year’s worth of saved wine bottles in varying shades of gold and copper. “We loved how it turned out,” Molly said. “And how the funky science decor represented Sam’s work as a research biologist.” Kids in attendance enjoyed a temporary tattoo station supplied by Tattly.
