Robyn + Jamie: A Boho Hippie Wedding by Rebecca Amber Photography
Posted by Sarah Zlotnick. Filed under Real Weddings

This carefree British Columbia wedding is exactly what we want to see now that it’s hitting 80 degrees in DC! Set at the all-kinds-of gorgeous Sea Breeze Lodge at Hornby Island, Robyn and Jamie’s waterside celebration is the perfect example of how energized and unforgettable a DIY wedding can truly be (the couple called on family and friends to help with everything from making the bouquet to officiating the ceremony).

“We just wanted a fun, fresh vibe and lots of bright colors,” says bride Robyn. Mission accomplished, we think! Thanks to Rebecca Amber Photography for sharing the day with us—we guarantee you’ll be gunning for a trip to shore halfway through the story.

DIY Wednesday: Rosemary & Floral Bridal Wreath
Posted by Kate. Filed under DIY Wednesday

Being the Pacific Northwest girl that I am, I swoon over the idea of incorporating fresh herbs and organic elements into a wedding.  Especially rosemary.. mmm, I just love the smell.  Since rosemary is really easy to work with, inexpensive, and holds up well without water, I thought it would make for a gorgeous little hair wreath.  I teamed with up the lovely Ali of Thistledown Photography to prepare this little DIY for you!

Materials: Floral Wire • 3 Bunches of Fresh Rosemary • A Few Sturdy Blooms • Baby’s Breath

Step One •  Make a circular crown out of floral wire.  Try it on your head to ensure that it will sit nicely.

Step Two • Work the rosemary around the wire crown, securing with wire when necessary.  Use the wire sparingly.

Step Three • Arrange three or five blooms in the front of the crown, slightly off center.  Insert the short stems of the blooms into the structure you’ve created, then use wire sparingly to hold in place.

Step Four • Add in small pieces of baby’s breath leading into and exiting from the floral accent, to visually integrate the shape into the rosemary wreath.

Step Five • You can prepare your floral wreath the day before, then store it in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator, away from food.  Spritz the wreath with water to store and keep fresh.

A Touch of Rustic & Trend by Paper Antler Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

This week’s real wedding was a pure celebration of family, friends, great food and tons of dancing. Lissa and Paul aimed to throw a great party, choosing the lush Hilltop in Spring Green, Wisconsin as their unique venue. Paul works as a nurse in a local ER and is also a flight nurse in the Air Force; Lissa works as an attorney. The ten-month engagement was an incredibly busy time, as Paul was deployed overseas, they bought a new house, and, about three months before the wedding, they found out they were expecting their first baby! Whew..!  They still pulled off one heck of gorgeous and sweet wedding.  The décor balanced rustic details with a touch of ikat trend and a dash of peachy romance… all captured beautifully by the good folks at Paper Antler!

Lissa was such a classic beauty in a Romona Keveza Legends gown and matching mantilla veil, while the bridesmaids wore grey chiffon frocks by J. Crew to complement the organic palette of greys, greens, and soft peach.  The couple wed surrounded by loved ones and the great embrace of nature.

The drought that struck the midwest over the summer let up just in time for the wedding — it was raining on and off on the day-of. Luckily, the rain, which lit up the lush green landscape, stopped thirty minutes before and they were able to host most of the festivities outdoors.  After a cocktail hour of lawn games, guests settled into a romantic nook on the property for a reception of rustic beauty.

Daffodil Parker wove peach garden roses into the décor adding a soft romantic element against the trendy ikat patterned table runners and rustic display of candlelight.  Instead of a wedding cake, the couple opted for fresh-out-the-oven homemade cookies and ice cream. The guests loved it!

Be sure to head over to the full gallery to enjoy more inspiring photos from the day!

Massive congratulations to Lissa and Paul on their new family!

All Natural Marina Wedding in B.C. by Aubrey Joy Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

When I came across Sarah and Mike’s wedding photos, I immediately fell for their natural, organic style, their grounded approach to planning, and of course, Sarah’s darling gown by Ivy & Aster.   Both Sarah and Mike are lovers of the outdoors, travel, good food and wine, and especially coastal B.C.  They said I do on a pier in Pender Harbour this past June.  Enjoy all the natural loveliness, captured by Aubrey Joy Photography.  After a rainy morning of cozying up with her bridesmaids, Sarah dressed in the lovely Sweetpea gown, her long blond locks pinned back with a graceful Jennifer Behr hair flower.  As if it was perfectly choreographed,  the rain stopped just before the ceremony.  Joy and laughter-filled nuptials ensued with hints of sunshine peeking thru the clouds and the serene Strait of Georgia as the backdrop. Afterwards,  Sarah and Mike headed to a special, secluded spot for romantic, sweep-you-off-your-feet kind of portraits with Aubrey.

The reception was embellished with simple florals, driftwood adornments, and herbal favors.  Sarah and Mike reported that the highlights of the evening were the heartfelt speeches and breathtaking view of the marina.

Sweet congratulations to the newlyweds…
