* DIY Wednesday: An Orangerie-Inspired Centerpiece

Posted on December 7th, 2011 by Kate. Filed under DIY Wednesday, Do It Yourself, Reception.

By: Chelsea Fuss

Orangeries were small greenhouses filled with fruit trees and plants in the 17th century. Can you imagine having a lush table filled with fruit and greens for a winter wedding? Think beyond red and green for Christmas and display these festive centerpieces at your December wedding. The idea would look beautiful for a January wedding too. You could even add some paperwhites and tiny votive candles!

You’ll Need:

Bunches of greens (each table will take about 1/4 of a bunch). The best greens for this are: boxwood, oregonia, myrtle, pittosporum and bay.

A few pounds of oranges or tangerines (preferably with the leaves still on them)

White pitchers, bowls and vases

1 Myrtle topiary in a terra cotta pot

To Re-create this centerpiece:

1. Collect 4-5 white bowls, pitchers and vases per table.

2. Fill with water and casually arrange stems of greens in them.

3. Display in the center of your table with a small myrtle topiary planted in a terra cotta pot.

4. Place a few of the oranges or tangerines directly on the table.

5. Add candles or white flowers for a more formal wedding!

Afterwards, send your guests home with the fruit, greens and plants.

* Fall Harvest Party at Bear Flag Organic Farm

Posted on November 21st, 2011 by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings.

We’re sort of in awe that it is already Thanksgiving this Thursday (and a new engagement season is upon us)!  What better way to start off the week than with Allison and Peter’s fall harvest party at one of our favorite venues: Bear Flag Farm?!  A special thanks to Shelly Kroeger for capturing these delicious photographs! Allison and Peter met in Miami, while Allison was finishing up her third year of medical school.  The pair shares a love for the outdoors and fabulous food. Their vision was to create a food-centric celebration using as much from the farm’s fields and orchards as possible.Shades of lavender, peach, apricot, tangerine, amethyst, grey, and lilac came together to create the central color palette of the day.
The reception décor was made from greenery, fruits, and flowers straight from the field!  A vibrant, abundant harvest filled the tabletops.

* Toyin + Daniel’s Nigerian-American Wedding

Posted on October 5th, 2011 by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings.

Andrew Thomas Clifton’s photos tell such a beautiful story…
A story of Toyin and Daniel’s exquisite Nigerian-American wedding in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Toyin looked ravishing in a Claire Pettibone gown… the Orange Blossom.
The ceremony took place in the back yard of a colonial style home built in the 1930’s, called Little Gardens. There was so much rich family heritage incorporated into the day… Both of their families are Nigerian, so it was filled with both Nigerian and American traditions. Blue is the bride’s favorite color, while brown is the groom’s favorite color.  They wove these two hues with splashes of orange for a- traditionally colorful- Nigerian wedding feel. One of our favorite photos of the day was Toyin giving her father a big smooch.  We love how Andrew captured such memorable close-ups.

Like is customary in both Nigerian and American weddings… there was tons of dancing all evening long!

Happy wishes to Toyin + Daniel!

* Color in Bloom at a Botanical Garden

Posted on October 3rd, 2011 by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings.

Emily and Ricardo met on New Year’s Eve of 2006.   She, a California native, and he, born and raised in Brazil, met, fell in love, and were married four and a half years later.   We’re delighting in the vibrant florals and sweet photographs from their big day at the San Diego Botanical Garden.
The bridesmaids wore sage green frocks; Emily looked classic in a semi-sweetheart strapless gown.  The entire bridal party carried abundant blooms designed by Magnolia Flower Shoppe. The San Diego Botanic Garden is an ultra-scenic California locale.  Emily and Ricardo married in the ‘walled garden,’ hosted a cocktail hour in the herb garden, and held the reception on the gazebo lawn. Anjuli Paschall captured the vibrant colors and sweet, tender moments of the day.

Katie and Thom waited nine years to marry, so they were totally ready and completely excited when their June wedding date arrived!  It was an intimate wedding of fifty close friends and family; they married at Katie’s Grandparent’s farm in Guilford, Connecticut.  The warm summer weather in rural New England was wedding-perfect, and the invitations promised guests a clam bake!  The sweet photographs were snapped by Dustin and Whitney- the talented duo behind Oh, Darling! Photography.

Things we ♥: Tangerine paper pomanders, patterned lanterns, New England in the summertime, and the anticipation built up by a looong courtship!

Christine and Victor’s Mexican and Western fusion wedding is one of those weddings that has a true ’stamp’ of authentic character. I just love when couples put their very own spin on the theme and planning of their day! The wedding was held at the memorable Condor’s Nest Ranch and included so many fun elements like cowboy boots, maracas, colorful papel picados, and explosions of pink and orange flowers. Here are some vibrant photos of the day from Alice Hu!
