Portia and Desmond were married at Valley Green Inn in Philadelphia, Penn. on April 13. They first met while attending Loyola University in New Orleans. “After a couple of years of dating and too many years of distance, we moved in together in Philadelphia where Des was in medical school,” Portia said. ”We decided to get married in the City of Love because it is were we got engaged,” she said. “By our favorite mural . . . that reads, ‘If you were here, I’d be home now.’” The bride wore an antique-colored lace fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a sideswept loose curls updo and birdcage veil, while Desmond wore a navy blue suit, brown bow tie, and his glasses. Plus, a traditional Hawaiian lei around his collar! Following the outdoor nuptials, guests were asked to type out their well wishes and advice. The tech-savvy tips: “Don’t be shy! You have to punch the letters with some force. (Not an Iphone.)” The reception tables were decorated with mercury glass vases, which were collected over a year before the wedding, and ”gorgeous flowers and family pictures and old family relics (like maps and paitnings) completed our country chic-inspired look,” she said. Their first dance song? ”We both have a mutual love for Michael Jackson music,” Portia said. “And he put ‘Lady in my Life’ on his first mixtape he made for me during our courtship, so it was a no brainer.” See the full board here.

Gina and Jonathan were married at J.Verno Studios in Pittsburgh, Penn. on September 13. ”We wanted a very modern wedding that cut out traditions to make room for our personalities,” Gina said. “We created a high-energy atmosphere from start to finish which also made the planning stress-free.” The bride wore a ruched fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with her hair down in loose curls with a headband, while the groom wore a light gray three-piece suit, accessorized with a striped tie. Guests were greeted with the couple’s name projected on an all-white wall. “I walked down the aisle to one of my favorite electronic songs,” she said. “Jon met me halfway and escorted me the rest of the way.” They even wrote their own vows! The reception was lit with crystal chandeliers, tables were decorated with gray linens and yellow hydrangea centerpieces, and “He” and “She” signs were displayed, where each one wrote what they loved about another. For entertainment, the “shoe game” was played, and during the first dance, the bridal party joined the newlyweds on the dance floor and put on glow-in-the-dark, flashing glasses. How fun! Ashley and Doug decided to do something a bit non-traditional — a surprise wedding! Family and friends assumed they were getting married at the courthouse with no reception, but little did they know it would take place at the bride’s uncle’s garage in Pittsburgh, Penn a few days before New Year’s Eve. The bride wore an illusion back wedding gown, accessorized with a faux fur coat and floral statement necklace, while the groom wore a gray vest and pants, black button-up, and hat. “When I walked in the door in my wedding gown with my dad, everyone just gasped and started clapping,” Ashley said. “It was an amazing moment.”  During the ceremony, the couple placed a bottle of wine and sealed love notes to each other inside a wooden box to be opened on their fifth anniversary. Reception tables were decorated with handmade details such as ornaments. As a thank you, lottery tickets were placed at each setting. The “shoe game” was played too. ”It was fun to give them something to do and also to learn at little more about us,” she said. See the full board here.

Megan + Mike: A Romantic Red Winter Pennsylvania Library Wedding By Rachel Pearlman Photography

Megan and Mike were married in a traditional church ceremony at St. John the Evangelist Church followed by a reception at the Free Library of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. ”I’ve always loved the romance of winter and the playfulness of Valentine’s Day, so that influenced any aesthetic decisions I had to make,” Megan said. The bride wore a sweetheart ruffled ball gown by Pronovias, accessorized with a fur coat and velvet flats, while the groom wore a black tuxedo, accessorized with a bow tie. Bridesmaids carried rose bouquets (and heart balloons) in their long red chiffon dresses. The reception decor was based off of what the newlyweds loved most — books, damask motifs, craft brewed ales, family style foods such as chicken, potatoes, and parsnip puree, their dog Pammy. ”Our family and friends are, in my opinion, some of the most fun people in the world,” she said. “That being said, we tried to make the atmosphere of our wedding one where people could relax and just be themselves.” In lieu of a guest book, they wrote well wishes on notecards, which were placed in card catalog drawers, and in lieu of a cake, there were pies and doughnuts.
