Brooke and Matthew were married in a traditional church ceremony at Sam Ramon Chapel followed by an outdoor reception at Rancho Tinaquaic in Santa Maria, Calif. last fall. The couple first met at a Halloween party. “I was dressed as Lady Gaga, and Matt was a ‘member of a British band’ (aka he had no costume, except a scarf),” Brooke said. “But as we continued to see each other within a shared circle of friends, we found more and more reason to spend time together. Eventually, Matt asked me over to listen to an album by She & HIm — one of my favorite bands. It was love at first listen!” The bride wore a taffeta empire waisted wedding gown with a banded bodice, accessorized with a floral wreath in her curly short hair, while the groom wore a light gray suit, accessorized with a red tie. “Matt’s grandfather always told him that you should make a statement with your socks,” she said. “Following his advice, Matt owns a variety of wild prints, but his signature sock choice has always been red. . . We weren’t set on red as a color scheme — we just wanted things to be colorful!” Fun fact: The ceremony took place inside the same chapel Brooke’s great great great grandfather built for his wife in 1875. “Growing up, I always knew I would be married there. It sits about a mile away from my family’s ranch, and the ranch house we had our reception at,” Brooke said. Tables were decorated with candle centerpieces atop pieces of wood, the cake was lemon flavored with fresh raspberries, and the newlyweds performed their first dance to ” I Won’t Dance” by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
