Butterfly Garden Wedding by Jessica Garmon

This botanical garden wedding- in the butterfly house, nonetheless, at the Texas Discovery Gardens– is a gorgeous little throwback to the good ‘ol days.  Bobbye and Josh envisioned a wedding complete with their vintage style, homegrown and handmade design initiatives, massive fun, and a focus on family and friends. The yellow palette, framed around Josh’s heirloom pick-up truck, was paired with olive greens and grey accents, and the darling butterfly theme was the icing on the cake. The couple’s dear friend and photographer, Jessica Garmon, captured everything so fittingly in film… portraying the sweet and sentimental day to a t.

Bobbye wore a ruffled Camille la Vie gown and 1950’s lemon-yellow hat that she discovered on Etsy.  Usually, when we talk about handcrafted weddings, we’re speaking of the centerpieces, the favors… that sort of thing. With the help of her Aunt and a few dear friends, Bobbye did all of that, but also endeavored to sew the bridesmaid and flower girl dresses!  Now that’s impressive.  Sugar City Sweets & Celebrations designed the sunny yellow bouquets and handled the coordination so that the couple could just relax and enjoy on the day-of…

Both music-lovers, the couple met at a record store as they were perusing the selection.  Josh approached Bobbye, trying to impress her with his encyclopedic knowledge of classic rock. They moved their conversation to a nearby coffeeshop where they talked for hours and closed the place down.  Soon after, the pair started dating. The ceremony was intimate and meaningful, amongst lush gardens and busy butterflies.  One hundred and fifty guests watched from a sky bridge above.

I swear, the sweetness in their portraits is tangible!  And it continued into the afternoon reception of champagne, hors d’oeuvres, and Texas craft beers. Adornments of crocheted doilies, dozens of milk glass vessels, and bright yellow blooms filled the space with truly unforgettable vintage beauty.

The couple danced and cut the cake, then invited their guests to an after party at the Hotel Belmont in Oak Cliff. The mid-century modern hotel is one of their favorite spots – with a breathtaking view of downtown Dallas.

It had always been Josh’s dream to drive off from his wedding in the 1973 Dodge D100 Custom truck that he received from his Grandfather after high school graduation.  And it was a dream come true. Be sure to read a more detailed description of the heartfelt and handmade elements down below.

Happy wishes to this creative and classy duo!
