Brandy and Dug were married at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens in Charleston, S.C. on May 23. “The best compliment I received was that our wedding ‘was the most un-wedding wedding I have ever attended,'” Brandy said. “It was beautiful and simple and relaxed. We wanted to have our family and friends there to celebrate our special day but neither of us like being the center of attention.” The bride wore a strapless fit ‘n’ flare wedding gown, accessorized with a birdcage veil and jeweled sash, while the groom wore a three-piece tan suit, accessorized with a solid tie and Converse tennis shoes. Bridesmaids wore short green satin dresses and carried bouquets of viburnum, orchids, ranunculuses, and scabiosa pods. Notice the mustaches on the groomsmen’s socks? “We thought when we planned our wedding for mid-April in South Carolina we were likely to have great weather,” she said. “Well, it was 39 degrees when we woke up on the day of our (outdoor!) wedding. Luckily at 6p.m., it was 74 degrees without an ounce of wind at the ceremony site. The sun was shining brightly and it could not have been a more picture perfect day.” The entire day was very non-traditional — there was a passage from Bob Marley read, no first dance, no cake cutting, and food stations instead of a plated dinner. Reception tables were decorated with “very organic and natural” centerpieces atop burlap runners. I asked the florist to have low centerpieces,” Brandy said. “It drives me crazy to go to a wedding that has floral arrangements blocking the view of people seated across the table.” In lieu of a guest book, each guest signed a vintage postcard and place it into a suitcase. At the end of the night, the newlyweds exited amongst a sea of sparklers. See the full board here.
