Fashion Friday: 5 Supremely Flattering Necklines
Posted by Sarah Zlotnick. Filed under Bridal Fashion, Bridal Market Spring 2014, Wedding Dress

After polling on Facebook and Twitter, the answer is clear: when it comes to wedding gowns, PW brides place more emphasis on the neckline than the skirt. It makes sense, too—while we’re all about a gorgeous gown, at the end of the day it’s more important that you look gorgeous in it! And the best way to do that is with pretty details up top that draw attention to your face. Here, we’ve rounded up 5 of the most flattering necklines we know, all with examples from the latest runway collections. Enjoy!

1. High Neck Halter

Sophisticated brides, take note—high neck halters are an elegant way way to highlight sculpted shoulders and firm upper arms. The gathering of fabric at the neck also leads people’s eyes straight to your smile. Gowns (left to right): Lazaro and Temperely London.

2. Deep V

The plunging V is a great look for lither ladies who want to show off great posture and beautiful clavicle bones. We love this sexy statement for smaller-chested brides—just remember the double-sided tape! Or opt for a gown with mesh netting to hold everything in place, like the Berta gown on the right. Gowns: Anne Barge and Berta.

3. Illusion V

The Illusion V is a beautiful compromise for brides who want the support of straps but the bareness of a bustier/sweetheart gown.  Lace, appliques, and other details draw eyes upwards, while the plunge discretely creates a bit of cleavage. Gowns: Christos and Tara Keely. Read the rest of this entry »

Fashion Friday: Gorgeous and Affordable
Posted by Kate. Filed under Wedding Dress, Wedding Inspiration

Goooood Friday morning!  I’m in New York, about to see a flurry of runway shows; I can’t wait to show you the new season of bridal gowns!  Stay tuned all this weekend for daily updates here on the blog and live updates here and here.  While I’m off doing that, I thought I’d leave you with a pretty inspiration board that I made for the gals over at Weddingbee!  The Editor-In-Chief and my dear friend Cathy Schroeckenstein asked me to share some pretty fashion inspiration on the site.  I went to it, choosing three dresses from my fave affordable lines: Watters and Wtoo, and designing a wedding concept based on each gorgeous gown.   Here’s a fresh, peachy palette  to complement the Olivia dress… you’ll have to hop on over there to see the others!

Have a beautiful weekend friends… I’m so excited to hear what dresses you ladies are loving, so stop back in to see the re-cap of each day here at New York Bridal Market. On the docket… Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta…. etc, etc, etc.

First Look! Fashion Highlights for 2012
Posted by Kate. Filed under Wedding Dress

It’s been a whirlwind weekend in the windy city… Dozens of bridal fashion designers unveiled their newest collections for 2012 at the semiannual Chicago Bridal Market.  I was there getting in on all of this unveiling and here’s a first look at some of the highlights!

A patterned fabric gown by Steven Birnbaum.  Ladies, the photo just doesn’t do it justice, this fabric was sooo lovely and the cut, impeccable.  I think this is a nice look for a sophisticated bride who has a little boho-chic running in her blood.

Gorgeous, Green, and Glamorous by Enzoani.  This subtle green stunner stole my heart.  The color, for one, was endearing… the raw cut fabric, edgy.. and that skirt- unforgettable.

Of course not all styles featured that gorgeous trumpet skirt seen in the first two, I also saw a re-emergence of full A-line skirts and ballgowns. Here, a model shows off a two-toned Sophia Tolli number in pewter and white.

Watters and Watters stole the show with their contemporary trends that are utterly wearable.  Above, a silk sheath with a peplum at the waist, and below, a peek at their newest print for bridesmaids!

I thought this Justin Alexander beauty was terribly romantic, and just loved the asymmetrical cascade of organza roses.

And last but not least, layers of dusty violet fabric make for a fashion forward style by Wtoo.  Love, love, love…

Of course there is so much more to show you from this weekend fashion extravaganza!  These are just a few of the photos that I took with my handy dandy SLR.  More to come when we get photos back from our staff photographer!
