50 book Challenge

I don't typically make New's Year's Resolutions but last year I made one that I failed, this year I'm making the same and I'm going to do it!

I'm banking on getting a Kindle for Christmas. And starting January 1st I'm going to read 50 books in 2012!

Anyone want to join me on this challenge?

How is everyone doing with their goal??

According to GoodReads, I am 32% of my goal complete with 17 of 50 books read. Woohoo!

Nice, Jess!

Juliee & Yhett, never too late to start!

Bah, I'm so behind my goal. I blame it on grad school. I've read 10/50 with 20% of my goal complete. Which means I'm 14% behind. Ugh! I knew grad school would make it tough, but I'm going to keep on!

Right now I'm reading The Girl Who Played with Fire. What are you all reading?

How's everyone doing?! I didn't take a grad class during summer session II so I took the time to catch up (I wanted to get ahead but that didn't work!

I was 9 books behind after Summer Session I. Now, 7 weeks later I'm 2 books behind, that's only 5%!

But, let me tell you, I'm exhausted! I feel like I'm rushing through book. I'm also choosing books based on how difficult I think it would be to get through...not good! For instance, I really want to read Atlas Shrugged. But, at 1168 pages, I think I need to hold off until after this challenge!

20 books, 4 months and 2 grad classes until 2013....can I do it!?

I am a little bit behind right now!! Not only on reading them, but also listing them on my Goodreads! I need to update so I can see how behind I truly am!

You can do it Nicole!

Anyone still working on this?

I'm on book 46 right now, and I have a chapter from a textbook that wasn't assigned from one of my classes left to read. Might as well read those extra 30 pages so I can count it as a book.

Never thought I would make it this far!

I working on it! I am really hoping I hit 50, but I don't know how possible it is going to be. I might find some short books to get more. I think I am at 38.

Jess, You should check out the WOOL Omnbibus series by Hugh Howey. There are 8 books total. The first is only 50 something pages. And it's super cheap on Kindle and such a quick read and so good!

Hey everyone! How are you all doing in your challenge? I just finished book 49 this morning and I've started book 50 during lunch. I didn't think it would be so tough to chose a 50th book, but I didn't want to read just any old book. I decided to read one of my favorites, 1984 by George Orwell. When I tell people this they say, "haven't you read that a million times already?" Well yes, yes I have and I might just read it a million more!

Then today while sitting in the diner reading, a man approached me, "excuse me, I see a lot of people reading in here so I snuck a peak to see what you were reading. I couldn't believe it...1984? Really?" I explained its one of my favorites and he replied, "you just don't see too many people walking around with George Orwell," as he nodded with approval.

Now...for everyone who made participated, whether you completed it or not,: CHEERS to you for picking up a book this year! (and, there's always 2013!)

That is awesome, Nicole! Congrats on getting there! And great choice!

I think I am going to make it, just in the nick of time. I finished 46 this morning and should be finishing 47 tonight (I was nearly finished, but I forgot it was due to go back to the digital library a few days ago. I was able to download it again this morning). I cannot wait to do it again next year!

I'm going to try again in 2013 - I'm happy with 33 this year, but I'll try harder next year

I read and re-read the Scarlet Letter Hawthorne and I loved Anna Karinina by Tolstoy

If you like SciFi and Historical Fiction Wraeththu by Storm Constantine is an amazing book. I should warn you though it is not for those who are offended by the idea of gay men though they are not gay. You have to read it to understand.

I also love Fredrick Pohl, Mercedes Lackey as well as Orson Scott Card

Though lately Austin is my go to author.

I am glad to meet other book aholics. Between facebook x4 business accounts (WEB developer Social Media Marketer) and my own FB, Pinterest Christmas and PW forums I just don't have time to read much at the moment.

I am looking forward to January and reading like mad again! All of my DIY projects will be finished over Christmas break!!!! w00t!!!!

I am terrible at keeping goodreads up to date---I wish I could sync it to the kindle--how easy would that be!? I always have to have the kindle next to me and scroll through what I've read.

Since I am not working at the moment (and suck as a housewife) I was able to get through a lot more than I thought I could. I think maybe I was in a genre rut, kwim? I get so obsessed with certain books/genres then I get so burnt out.

Having said that--as I was looking at my Kindle, Amazon, Goodreads, and the library website today, I couldn't find anything that jumped out at me. I'm really wanting another series to love after reading Hunger Games, Girl with the dragon tattoo and Divergent this year, any recommendations?

Oh! And what is your goal for next year? 50 again? I am thinking about maybe trying for 60 or 65.

YEEEEY on finishing Jess!

Oh Jess, I've thought about that before, how awesome would it be to be able to sync Goodreads to Kindle! I have an app on my phone. I found I needed to update or I'd forget where I was lol.

You NEED to read the Wool Omnibus Series by Hugh Howey. Super cheap on Amazon. I recomended it to a friend and my brother and they both read books 1-5 in 3 days! I read it months ago and I still find my mind wandering into thoughts about that series!

I've also heard that the Discovery of Witches series is good too. I haven't started them yet but they are on my to read list.

I think I'm going to skip making a goal for this year. Have any of you made new goals? I started grad school last year and between that and work I was exhausted. I put off reading some books because I knew it would take me longer to read, or because I knew I wanted to pay more attention to them. (like Atlas Shrugged, it's been on my to read list, but it's 1,200 pages!)

I'm still going to read, because honestly that's what I love to do! Maybe I'll try for 30 this year? (there I go already changing my mind, DOH!)

I've been on a kick where I want to re-read the classics. You know, the books that everyone (but me) complained about having to read in high school? Right now I'm on Of Mice and Men, which I've read a few times; I've also started Wuthering Heights which I haven't read at all yet but I've wanted to for a while.

Phew...I had lots to say. ;)
