A note to the ladies DIYing with rhinestones

A week ago I was wondering who on earth would need over 2k rhinestones for a project and opted to spend a little bit less on 750 purple hot fix rhinestones. I just received the baggie, and I have this feeling that I'm going to order at least 2k more. Minimum.

So, for everyone that's using rhinestones, order as many as you can.....750 might seem like a lot- but it's not going to even cover my cake topper. *sigh*

I ordered like... two full stones or whatever that unit of measurement is called. They still came in a baggied, but I almost used them all!

I bought 1440 of them for my cake topper and used a LOT. I used the leftovers on my menu cards. But yes, buy a lot of them! Especially if you are using them with the hotfix tool and you are new to that. I had to discard quite a few of the rhinestones that I melted and ruined until I got really good with the hotfix method.

Oh dear! Thanks for the heads up. I bought 1440 also but my cake topper is about 6 inches tall and about 8 inches wide.  I didn't realize the rhinestones could melt?! Hope I have enough! Keeping fingers crossed.

Ditto Ride. I bought one package of 1440 thinking it was plenty (I can't remember their exact size) and it was most certainly NOT. Mine is also about six inches high and I covered the entire thing.

Also, be smarter than me and don't paint your letter white when you're using colored rhinestones...

Yiela, they can. :/ But the trick is to tap down very quickly with the hotfix tool onto whatever you are putting the rhinestones on and don't let it sit there. It's easy once you get some practice and then you are going to want to hotfix rhinestones on everything you can think of! :)

Haha, Layla- word to the wise??? Black spray paint it is!

I'm so happy that Aswan just told me about the Washington-based Ebay seller Aske Creations so I don't have to wait for my stuff from Hong Kong...even though it's already on the way. Oops! haha.

Kitty- I have a feeling I'm going to be blinging out EVERYTHING! LOL!

Ridegrl, it's addicting! :) Just make sure you don't use acrylic paint for your black paint! I did that and the hotfix tool melted the paint. I had to start all over again, sanding off the paint, and re-painting. Bah!

Spray paint is definitely faster and easier. I was just trying to use the leftover acrylic I had from painting my aisle runner and save money. Cheaper is not always better. LOL
