Acute Morning Sickness

hey girls,

I'm just wondering how bad you suffered/are suffering from morning sickness?

My symptoms come on from 10pm at night and last till around lunch time the following day. They consist of dizziness, fainting and nausea. Although yesterday lots of vomiting occurred too.

I was advised to eat and drink little and often which I do and nothing is really helping. I have ab overnight work trip coming up this week and I'm a little worried about being away from DH as he's been there for me all through the night...

I had morning sickness all the way through my pregnancy. I never found any relief with things like crackers or Gingerale. I ended up getting a prescription for zofran and it worked wonders!

I am sorry you are feeling so awful :( I felt dizziness, fainting, exhaustion & nausea from week 5 through week 12 (I consider myself a lucky one). It would be Triggered by eating! So the "eat often" did NOT work for me at all. I did eat often, but knowing I would feel horrible after... It was a miserable time... Just now I am getting my energy back & not feeling too ill (I still feel awful in the mornings though until around 10am).

I think, if your m/s disrupts the flow of business or you cannot function somewhat regularly (or at least solo), get an RX for Zofran! I only hear good things...

I'm sorry you're dealing with that... I got really lucky and only got sick a few times in the 1st tri.

Tip from my MIL: eat a small bowl of rice krispies cereal with a small amount of suga before bed. It keeps your blood sugar up and tummy full through the night to help start your day. But also check with your Dr about zofran like Jen said!

I never felt good at night, but luckily was never ill. I always ate a banana before going to bed and that seemed to help

Thanks Nicki. I'm going to try a banana tonight. I spoke to the doc about zofran and he was fairly reluctant for now as I'm already on medication for my head. If things get worse then he will reconsider.

@ milkgal - I tried the gingerale thing too and spat it out. Same with the crackers. Lol.

@ cheekymar - I totally get you. I was told to do the same and it leaves me feeling more nauseous!! I'm sorry you're only just getting your energy back... I'm really hoping I get a bounce of energy soon too!!

@ danmrs - rice krispies will be bought tomorrow. Thank you!!

I was put on phenergran at my first appt. I asked from day one and plus I have sleep issues and this was keeping me from sleeping. Also after a few weeks I started losing weight and finally started gaining weight once I was place on Zofran. I still have to take it a few times a week but not everyday. I tried sprite, eating ginger and crackers but it was not helping.

I feel your pain, Jenny (and Jennifer too!). I was sick from week 6 until I gave birth. I was in zofran the whole time. I tried everything and nothing besides the medication worked.

But here are some things to try: jolly ranchers or some hard candy. Suck on one all the time. Some said this helped. I tried it and I think it was more of a distraction factor than a helpful one. I didn't think about the sickness while I had candy!

Ginger tea, gingerale, ginger candy, basically anything ginger is supposed to be calming for nausea.

Acupunture. Weird, but I tried this too. A lot of people said it helped. Didn't help me either, but worth a shot.

Oh, and some said a combo of a vitamin B12 pill and half a Unisom pill helped too.

Thank you all so much girls - I've pretty much purchased all of the above!!!  Although I've found the things that are helping me for now are coco pops and fizzy cola bottles!! SOOOOOOO random!
