Adult Only Reception Invite Wording

Tailgating on Sebunte's thread regarding no children at the reception, what is the proper way to state that on the invite...or do you NOT state it on the invite??? Not sure, but I don't want anyone confused...TIA!

We added a line item on the RSVP that denotes on how seats we had reserved for that invite. We didn't include any children because we were only allowing family to bring their kids. Or, you could always write "Adult Only Reception" at the bottom of the RSVP.

we put it on our website, and we also only addressed the invitations to the adults in the house....and we're hoping word of mouth will spread it around too....

I've seen invitations that read "Adult reception only. Please no children" on the bottom of the invite. Not sure if that helps....

We didn't put it on the invite- your guests should know by who is invited on the inner envelope. For example: putting Mr. & Mrs. William Smith or Mr. William Smith & Guest... as opposed to having Mr. & Mrs. William Smith and Family.

Plus- we spread the news by word of mouth. Mom and MIL mentioned it to family members in conversation if the wedding came up.

EDIT: plus you'll know when you get the response back if they think children are invited if they put say 4 on their response card. Then you can call them and politely tell them that unfortunately children are not invited.

Just put "leave your kids at home!!"

j/k - no seriously though, I think the best way is to put "adult reception to follow." It's to the point, but still polite. :)

I can't believe what a big deal about an adult reception is. Why can't we just say, Leave your kids at home!"? Weddings are just not a place for children, simple as that! As a parent, I would not get offended or not attend a wedding because we couldn't bring our son. In fact my son, with waaay rather me leave him with a sitter than make him come to a wedding.

Look...$200 for a child to eat dinner at Daughter's reception is out of the question.  And the way I see it...bluntly...if someone won't come without their child then they need to stay home.  $200 less for me to pay...Blunt enough?

HAHAHA, you ladies are a trip. I think that I'm just going to put "Adult Reception to Follow" on the invite - it is polite and to the point.

Don't get me wrong either - I love kids - especially other people's (you can play with them and then give them back...LOL), but unfortunately some parents don't know how to control their children and I do NOT want to turn into the a bridezilla after some "overdosing on sugar" kid...LOL...
