Advice for teaching 11yo DD to knit/crochet, please

My 11 yo daughter is interested in learning to knit and crochet. I can't decide which one to introduce her to first.

Which one did you learn first?

How old were you?

Which did you find easier to learn?

I didn't have problems with either one, so I'm not sure which way to go.

How exciting that your daughter wants to learn!!!

Which one did you learn first?  I learned to crochet first.

How old were you?  About 7 years.

Which did you find easier to learn?  I found (and still do) crocheting to be easier for me.

I'm like Becca.  I was about 7 or 8 I think.  I learned crochet first and I don't know when I learned to knit.  I can do much better now, but knitting is still a bit of a chore for me.  Crocheting does come easier.

It's awesome that your daughter wants to learn.  (I think it has become the "in" thing again.)  Enjoy your time with her!

Thanks for your replies, Becca and Siouxzan! I asked a few other people, too, and got the same answer that crochet is generally easier to learn. I encouraged her in that direction, but she got real stubborn and said she liked the look of knit better. So this weekend, I had her start a knit practice piece. By the time she got to 8 inches (with a cast on of 20), she had it down pat. She did another 4 inches with no mistakes, so I told her she could pick out some yarn and start a scarf. She's running with it and doing great! :)

When my 8 yo son saw how much fun his older sister was having, he begged me to show him something. I started him off with crocheting, doing just a chain stitch. He's now got a chain that stretches about 15 feet. I offered to teach him the single crochet stitch, but he just keep wanting to chain. LOL
