Advice on THEE dress....

Hey ladies! I'm new to the game, engaged just a little over a month, so I haven't really focused on THEE dress too much. Heck, I haven't even found a venue yet.

However, over this past weekend mom and I were at an expo that featured a bridal gown fashion show with the option to buy the dresses at RIDICULOUSLY discounted prices. I happened upon a beee-a-utiful Sottero & Midgely dress priced at $300! (Yes, $300!!!) I tried on the dress and fell in ..... serious "like" that may have the potential to be love. Mom cried, I didn't. I love Maggie Sottero and feel like I need to jump on this (they're only holding the dress for me for 4 more days at that price). But I'm having doubts because I didn't have that "Say Yes to the Dress" moment. I'm unsure if my lack of emotion should be taken as a sign and pass on the dress or if everything is just so whirlwind that maybe I haven't processed this.

Any ladies on here experience anything even remotely similar? Or have any stories of how they knew their dress was THEE ONE?

Welcome to PW and congratulations on your engagement.  Although I haven't started dress shopping yet and haven't had similar experiences, I will say that I think you should keep looking.

It's good that they are going to hold the dress a few days for you but unless you are absolutely in love with it I would keep searching.  If you end up getting it after all then great but I think it's best to try on several styles at many different salons so you can get an idea of what you like and give you the confidence that you have made the right selection.

Happy hunting.

First, welcome and congrats! I guess my dress experience was similar. I did Filene's running of the brides. So all the dresses were on super discount. I tried on a million dresses that morning and when I tried on my dress I liked it a lot, so much more than any dress I tried on. I tried on some others, then I tried my top choice again and she felt a little more like mine. It was a time crunch, I had to buy it or leave it. So I did it again, I tried on some others, then I tried her back on. The others just didn't compare. Rather than put my BM's through all of that again, I decided she was mine!

So my advice: go to a bridal shop beforehand if you can and try on dresses. Try on a lot of dresses. Even try dresses you never imagined yourself wearing (because they always look different on!) Then try on the Sottero & Midgely dress, se eif you still feel the same way.

Also, do you have a picture of you in it? Maybe we can help you!?

I think that when you put on "The Dress" you will know it right then and there. I think that you should keep looking too.

Thank ladies! I think y'all are right about continuing my search and trying on other dresses. While it is a beautiful gown, I think I was more in love with the price tag than the dress itself. It's hard not to get swept up in a deal like that when you're a bride on a budget. But at least now l get to enjoy the experience of trying on different styles, etc. ;)

Yeah I can totally understand falling in love with the price tag more than the actual dress itself. Have fun dress shopping!  :)
