Almost 8 months and still no period..

Hoping someone can help me!

I went off BC (after being on Allesse for 10 yrs) in August and that was my last period. My doc ran every test possible (including an ultrasound) and everything came back normal. I took Provera in Dec and had a 24 hr period - it was so light, it was basically just spotting. I started Provera again 14 days ago (been stopped for 4 days now) and I haven't even spotted. I have been going to acupuncture weekly since January plus taking an herbal formula and that hasn't helped.

My doc is stumped and so she has referred me to a Gyno - which had a 5 month wait list so my appt is not until June.

Any advice out there, I just really want to be prego and it seems EVERYONE else is!!!

TIA!

You should definately being seeing a gyno for these issues - not a regular MD.  Do you not have a regular OBGYN that you see?  My OBGYN has a long wait list for regular appointments, but I am having a problem the wait list is a lot shorter - and it helps that I have already established care with her.  5 months is too long for you to wait around and hear answers regarding your period.

Also just something to add - I have a hard time believing that nothing was wrong with your blood tests and you haven't had a period in 8 months.  I had really long cycles 40+ days and my blood test came back with clear evidence on why I am not have a regular period.  Maybe a regular MD didn't run all of the correct blood tests on you?

Almost sounds like you might have PCOS, mention that to your OB-Gyn so they run all the tests.  My coworker has PCOS and was like you, no period.  Good luck, darlin'!

Thanks ladies. No, I don't have a regular gyno - finding a regular doc was hard enough! She said she ran every test possible, but that was in her opinion so the gyno may see that more need to be done.

I have none of the symptoms of PCOS - except the no period! Everything I read about PCOS you need to have more then just that symptom.

Amy - I have PCOS, but a very "light" version of it.  The only symptoms that I have from PCOS are irregular periods, no ovulation and high testosterone.  My doctor phrased it as in my body was trying to kick itself into PCOS high gear but I am not there yet.  And all of this happened when I got off of BC (I had been on it for 8+ years).

Do you live in Toronto?  I am guessing that is the reason why you have a long wait for the doctor...

I don't have any advice on how to handle the issues you are facing right now, but I think an OBGYN would be able to run the needed tests to figure on what is going on.

I am sorry you are going through this - I know just how hard it is to have no control over what your body is doing :(

Best of luck to you Amy!!! Please keep us posted - I hope you get word of a cancellation.  Oh one other thing...I think there are a couple of mommies in that area that post on the Project Baby forum - maybe they could direct you a doctor that could see you sooner?

Update! I got my period this morning! On day 4 of finishing 10 days of Provera. As happy as I am it now needs to #1 stay longer then 24 hours (as it did in Dec) and ideally #2 kick my cycle back into gear and perhaps ovulate??? I know that's wishful thinking but I need to stay positive or else I will drive myself nuts!!!

ccia - I was put on the cancellation list for the apt I have schedule in June. My regular doc (who I do really like) very much recommended this doctor so I would like to wait for her. Let's hope someone cancel and they call me!

Wow!!!  Thank goodness for your newly arrived AF!!!  How exciting!  I like your positivity... it will help you!!!  Are you going to chart or use opk's (if AF sicks around for a couple more days) to see if you will O?  Not that you should or shouldn't... just curious I guess!

Also, I don't know how cancellations go in your neck of the woods since it is so crazy trying to get an appointment, but cancellations can happen at any time... FX that you will get to see that GYN soon!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think AF has already left me :( My positivity from yesterday has died!

I was planning on testing using OPK's but now, I'm not sure. We are going to Jamaica the week I would test - so I'm thinking to just go and 'have fun' and hope I do O and hope I get prego.... wow, that would be a miracle!

I just can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue as me (I have posted on a few websites) - so its frustrating to feel like I am alone. I know lots of girls have fertility challenges, I just want to find someone with mine!

And yes, I am hoping I get a call saying I can come in - I will drop whatever I am doing to see a doc!!!

Amy -

Here is my thought on OPK's....I am using them since I need to be able to tell my doctor if I actually ovulated, but no matter if I used them or not, I would end up having sex the same amount, kwim?  So if you are going on vacation and know seeing negatives will make you depressed, why not just make sure to dtd as much as you want and if you do O you will definately hit it one way or another...I hope that makes sense :)

That totally makes sense - I'm thinking that's my best option because I know if I see negatives all week, it will make me sad. But wondering 'what if' my be worse!

Let's hope we both O soon :)

Did I read in another post you are taking clomid this cycle?

Thanks... and 'hi' back to you :)

You are smart to go off the pill before TTC as you have time to figure out what's going on with your body. I wish had done the same but I for some reason assumed I would get prego the first month of trying... boy was I wrong! My friend went off the pill last June and didn't get her period until 7 months later - but since she is no where close to TTC, she was enjoying the no AF! I have read that not getting AF for 3-6 months is 'normal' after coming off the pill so you are still within the 'norm'. But its good not to wait too long to start getting tested in case it is something more - what that could be I couldn't tell you because every test my doc has done on me so far has come back normal.

Good luck to you and let's keep in touch with our no AF situation!

Oh honey, I'm sorry you are feeling so frustrated. I don't have the same experience as you but just wanted you to know that I hope this gets solved soon. I'm glad there are a couple girls on here that have somewhat similar symptoms and/or can give you some advice and insight. Aren't they awesome?? :)
