Anyone ever think of opening

An exclusively plus size bridal salon? I have. With my wedding it was RIDICULOUS trying to find things that fit me or having people not let me try things on.

It's just so expensive to start a business like that. I guess I'm just thinking ahead. Maybe in a few years DH and I can start our own business selling only plus size wedding/formal/bridesmaids dresses. :-)

Not a bad idea add plus size lingerie and you would ALWAYS have business!

I thought of it but not sure if I would go through with it. I hope you do it. Its high time for something to give. Its a shame that us average size women, since the rest of the world says sizes 0-12 arent average for women, have to suffer some of the embarrassement just finding a gown.

Good Idea to have plus size lingerie too! I think it would be nice to have plus size girls for once having dresses a little big on them and clipped like you see the skinny girls having on SYTTD. :-) I think it would be a nice, welcome change. :-)

I think a good start would have plus size brides donate their gowns at least that way there can be a change to try on a dress, maybe purchase one that you wanted at a lower cost while slowly moving up the ladder to a full scale plus size bridal boutique. The sky is the limit since we are a untapped clientale. (sorry if my spelling is off im exhausted)

If I had the money to start one, I would...I think it would be amazing...I would be airing "Say Yes to the Dress:BBW" haha...That would bring a lot of people to Iowa too.

I've totally thought about this too!! And if not exclusively plus size then a store that offers every dress in several sizes past sample size so a plus size bride ( and inbetween brides) can actually try something on!  you're supposed to feel amazing when you put on a wedding gown- not discouraged!

Oooo if you do it- please add width width bridal shoes with larger sizes that don't look like g-ma shoes!- crazy money in shoes!

Let's all start it together...BBW's who sell dresses to BBW's...cause skinny girls working in a plus size store just pisses me off!

Love it...

(1) Maybe a full line of bridesmaids dresses -- sucks to be asked to be in a wedding and not be able to get a dress in your size... or not be able to even try them on...  But brides would also want to be able to get dresses for the non-plus-size girls...

(2) Second the no skinny sales people... Maybe have a "You must be able to wear our clothes" policy like other stores lol...

(3) If offering little boleros, attachable sleeves, etc, actually HAVE them in stock in WHITE and in plus size (Yes, had to try on a BLACK bolero at David's with wedding dresses, and they claim to have attachable sleeves, but they only go up to XL -- really??? who do they think is going to most want their arms covered??? grrr...)

(4) Definitely lingerie

(5) NO skinny mannikins...

(6) Pictures of actual plus size models... not the smallest "plus size" you could find and still call it plus size...

(7) Maybe get referrals and post images from photographers that can take e-pics/wedding/boudoir of real BBW and know how to have them come out nice. (Angles, poses, lighting...)

Hmmm... all I can come up with...

Amen to all of the above!  I have seriously considered it, however I am in a "small town" market and Indianapolis is 35 miles North of us...I think it would do much better in a larger market.

Full service - lingerie - accessories - wide width shoes - boleros - detachable sleeves - sashes - everything in PLUS sizes.

I'm sure you could --start small and expand...  Oprah???

ETA -- maybe shop your ideas around to local existing stores and ask if you could work on a "plus size" department with the goal of opening a whole plus size boutique???  sort of start all in one store and then rent out more space to expand...

I like the idea of starting with a used clothing section as a way to build the money to build larger.  You could purchase this at a lower rate and sell it as such.  It is hard to find someone to buy my larger dress.  Then, you could keep this as a separate area of the larger store.

Accessories are important too!

Maybe there's a way to hook up with a larger store (ie. Lane Bryant or Torrid) or to start it as a co-op (contract with people to make the jewelry, accessories, etc. to start to build money.

I really think it would take off.  As a plus-sized bride, I did not get the same fun joy that "normal" sized girls have at the shop.
