Are you buying gifts for parents?

Hi all,

My FI and I were talking about wedding gifts for the bridal party and I casually mentioned that I was wondering if we should get gifts for his parents(both his parents remarried). I have already bought my mom a gift because she is so special to me I couldn't not get her something and she's my only living parent. He was saying that he's only ever heard of getting gifts for the wedding party. I told him that I've noticed many of you are getting gifts for your parents. He was a bit surprised. So, who here is getting gifts for parents or anyone other than your bridesmaids/groomsmen?

Thanks! If we do buy gifts for all the parents, it's really going to add up quickly but I feel weird not getting them a gift. Advice greatly appreciated.

I think we're going to frame up an enlarged print of an engagement photo of us (yet to be taken) for both of our parents.  Simple but sweet (and not too, too spendy). :)

We are planning on getting a book from Mypublisher for both our rents after the wedding, and since his parents are funding the majority of the wedding we were thinking about getting them something extra, I threw out the idea of the letteryourlegacy thing...still yet to be decided!

Also, I didn't know the bride and groom were suppose to give gifts to each other!

I am going to make them each a scrap book with photos from the engagement, our invite, newspaper announcement, and wedding photos. So obviously I can't give it to them until we get the photos, then it'll take time to make them. I'll probably give them a card with a picture of a scrapbook in it to give them the idea.

We're paying for everything on our own, we really didn't plan parent gifts into our budget.

We did the same thing as cryflore mentioned. After we got the DVD of photos from our photographer, I made a couple of 80+ page photobooks for both sets of parents, designed and ordered from Picaboo.com. In hindsight, if I'd done a bit more research, I would have gone with Blurb.com because of the cost. I also like the dust jacket option, and I can create my own layouts.

Since our wedding was in October, we gave them simple framed wedding photos for Christmas gifts. We gave them the photobooks sometime in January. I think our parents really liked the books instead of a generic thank-you gift.

Good luck!

we're giving our parents (his parents, my mom) gifts...haven't quite decided on everything, but we will be giving them to them at the rehearsal dinner, plus they'll be getting parent's albums from our photographer too...they are included as part of our deal.  And yes....we're getting each other gifts too....i wanted a Tag Heuer watch...but somehow i don't think that's happening!!

Our gift is a little spendy, but our parents are throwing some serious $$$ towards the wedding and have been really great through the process, so, we're getting them Tiffany's frames with our engagement picture inside. It seems a little pretentious to give pictures of ourselves, I'd rather take their old wedding picture and stick it inside, but people tell me you typically give them a picture of yourselves, inside a frame. We're giving them their gift at rehearsal dinner.

an affordable gift is to go to like Marshall's or Ross and buy a pretty frame at a discounted price,. then put a pic of the two of you in it (engagement would be perfect) and wrap it nicely and voila! you could do that for like under 10 bucks.

in my fam, a parental gift is not expected but we'll probably get them a picture book of our wedding. the day of we'll prob do the framed photo unless we can find an affordable "digital frame" that shows slideshows.

We want to make our parents a picture book from one of the online sites once we get the pictures.  But I wanted to get each parent a little something that they would have to remember the day by.  For our mom's and grandma's we got them hankies from http://www.lartisana.com and had them embroidered.  For our dad's I got one cufflinks & the other a business card holder.  Everyone loved their gifts and they were inexpensive.

I was thinking about the photobooks. Maybe I'll just give them a little certificate that says we'll be giving those as gifts after we get the photos from the photographer.

Cari-I love that site. Thanks!

I was thinking of photobooks too...but I wanted to do two different layout (one for my family and one for DH's family) so that it'll be more meaningful.
