How about San Diego Melly?  They have Sea World there and Legoland and the weather is nice.

I'm from San Francisco so you could do Great America which is Santa Clara (45 minutes away from SF) or Six Flags Animal Kingdom (formerly named Marine World) but they have big rollercoaster rides.  There is also Santa Cruz beach boardwalk (which reminds me of the Jersey Shore) and that is about an hour and half from SF.  SF doesn't have any theme parks in it per se, except when the fairs come around to the area.  I think the only fun thing they have for kids would be like the Blue & Gold Fleet tour (its on a boat around the bay), Alcatraz island, Angel Island, or the Shark Experience at the wharf.  Its basically a concrete jungle unless you cross the bridges to the east bay or south bay.

You could also do the duck tour around SF (the bus goes in the water next to giants stadium) Its pretty cool & would be fun for the kidos

I would also suggest San Diego as well...they have the sea world, Lego land and the wild animal park...it is not to busy like LA...

Monterey is lovely, and Carmel, too. They have a big aquarium there.

i would say san diego as well (i'm from SF), i think that area may have more kid friendly things to do (zoo, seaworld, etc.), and the beaches will be a bit warmer than up here!

San Diego is wonderful.  The weather is great and there is so much to do.  Plus there are gorgeous beaches.

Then there is Orange County.  Laguna, Newport, Huntington Beaches and Disneyland. Tons to do, great restaurants and beautiful beaches plus, did I say this before? Disneyland!

Orange County. Anywhere- you won't be disappointed. Beaches and Dining that are amazing, Disneyland (who doesn't love DL??), Knott's Berry Farm, many small sites in between.
San Diego- Beach, Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, LegoLand

If you want to do socal, I would recommend staying in north county san diego and here's why: On the coast you have the beach, Legoland is in Carlsbad, the Wild Animal Park is 25 min. east (Escondido) the San Diego Zoo is 30min south (along with Balboa Park, and the downtown area). The La Jolla (Scripps) Aquarium is only about 20min south. Disneyland is only 55min north in Anaheim as well as pretty much the rest of OC. It's sounds like a lot of driving, but thats socal! Now if you feel like you could only handle/afford a few of those I would recommend staying closer to the attraction you choose :)

As far as norcal, San Fran is good, but it will be chilly year round so I would head south. Also Big Sur is spectacular, but lots of driving down the coast and few options of entertaining little ones (like a theme park).

I second everything scgirl said. I lived in Oceanside/Carlsbad for 2 yrs cuz it was centrally located to DT SD and Orange County. Also, I recommend looking into getting the SoCal City Pass deal. You get tickets to some theme parks in a family package deal. My cousins did it a few years ago and loved it.

I'm going to ditto everything above :) I loved going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium as a kid, did Marine World more times than I can count, had a season pass to Great America...

You've got lots to choose from :)
