We did these because we won a free photo session for entering our puppy in this photographer's cutest pet contest, and he took first place! Since we never had E pics done, we thought this would be cute for 1 year anni pics and family photos.

I LOVE them...but this photog is so freakin expensive!!! She wants $18.50 for 1 4x6 print, and $425 for a small album of only 30 photos. Am I wrong to think that is outrageous?

My problem is that of course, I fell in love with almost all of these pictures, but I don't think I can justify the price. Thoughts?

i have a friend that is a pro photographer.  she said that is too expensive and she thinks it is shady to adversite a free photo session and then charge for stuff.  she recommended that you confront the photographer on the false adervisement and tell her she doesnt have your permission to use those photographs in her perfolio.

Oh Sam, these are SO adorable and I've not heard of pics being that expensive.  What I would suggest to get some "pro" advice is to maybe reach out to plumcrush01 (Melissa) or Alliesauce (Allie), or even Mountainbride (Chris) and ask their opinions. You could also post this in the photography group and see if anyone there could help you.

Sam, those are absolutely precious, but the prices aren't.  It sounds like what may have happened is that the "prize" was the free session itself, but there are some photographers who will give the session for free as a prize and then expect you to purchase prints.  However, I would follow Becca's advice and ask some of our pro photographers; they may be able to help you out.

OK As a professional PRODUCT photographer and yes, sometimes that means photos of people dressed to look like brides all I can say is that is CRAZY.

This is what I would call Bait and switch. You won a free session? OK so that usually comes with 1 to 3 free poses of pics in a few sizes. Usually

1 - 8x10, 1st pose

2 5x7, 2nd pose

4 3.5x5,Possible third pose

or 8 wallets

This is how I give away free sessions. If you did not get this then I would RUN!

I will admit these are nice photos, but NOT worth the price. He/She feels that since you love the photos and you want them she can charge you whatever she wants.

I bet another would give you a much better deal.

ALSO, did she give you the prices BEFORE the session. If not that was dishonest from the start!

Thanks ladies!! I kind of figured those prices were astronomical, but it's been a few years since I've looked anything professional, so wanted to check!

And no, we never discussed pricing ahead of time, which is my bad. I just kind of figured on an average photo package...

Those are great pics...and your dog is so cute!!! But yea, those prices are pretty outrageous imo. Good luck. Does she offer a cd of the pics and then you can choose to print them elsewhere?

Here is what I would do. . .

Since she did NOT give you a price sheet before hand I would try and negotiate. Don't forget she may hold the pics, but you held her time.

If she does not renegotiate the price be prepared to walk away and also make sure she pulls ALL of your photos of the web. Because she did not give you a price sheet I am also willing to bet she did not have you sign the waiver for use of the photos.

Also, make sure she knows that you WILL let everyone know how you felt about her work and her prices and how she was NOT HONEST and UPFRONT. Also if this was at a bridal show be sure to let the people who run the show know of your experience!

You can also report to the BBB.

I wish you the best!

I while back Ridegrl1 had the same problem she "won" a session but she was required to buy a package to actually get any of her photos. That's really shady of photographers to try that.

We won our e-pic session and before we agreed to anything we made sure it included digital photos or a package.
