Babysitter for the wedding...$$$

Because we are not having kids at our wedding (Didn't want the distractions or the price that comes with renting more chairs and such) we're going to have someone from our church babysit. There are 4 children from out of town that she will be caring for (all other children live where we do and already have arrangements made for them). She will have them for 4-6 hours. We want to pay her a flat rate per child, but don't know how much. What do you suggest? I was thinking $25-$30 per child?

I know in my area for 1 kid the average is $5.00 an hour.  I know that depends on the age of the child too though. I think $25.00 or $30.00 would be fine.

Have you talked to her about the amount she wants?

No, I haven't yet. She's not a usually a babysitter. She's a mom of 2 boys of her own. She just offered to do it for us. And I didn't want the parents to be overcharged either.

I would ask a few mom's in your area what they charge, and then go with your best guess. If she offered to do it for you, chances are she'll take whatever you offer gladly, and if you are conscious about making it fair then you should be good! This is a great idea BTW :)

No, I'm not paying for the babysitting. Their own parents are. We didn't want kids running around and making disruptions. And actually, a lot of people attending the wedding have told me that they're glad a lot of kids won't be there. I LOVE kids, don't get me wrong. I'm a nanny! lol But My fiance has a huge family. And it's also a nice break for the parents to enjoy the wedding and not have to worry about their children being disruptive and such. Another reason we cut kids from the list was because we wanted other people to attend that are near and dear to us, but couldn't with all the children. And chances are, a bunch of toddlers won't even remember the occasion. We do have 3 children in the wedding party, but that is all.

Ask around. I would also give her a thank you gift of some sort.
