Backup plans

Ok so I'm watching "My Best Friends Wedding" and it starts with the whole backup thing and I also remember seeing it on friends and I'm just curious if anyone actually does this. It basically would be you and your best friend of the opposite sex and would state that if you and him/her are still unattached and unmarried by such and such an age/date that you will Marry each other. I just don't see the point and have never heard of it except for on tv and in movies.

It never occured to me to ever marry one of my guy friends if we never found someone.  I would never marry someone just to be married.  Society thinks that you are less of a person if you are not married by a certain age and I say society can bite me.  LOL

I totally agree with DreamingOfYou. Why settle? I say society doesn't know what's best for everyone. I would never do that either.

Those were my thoughts as well. Plus if a woman was just doing it to have someone to have kids with, you can do that by going to a sperm bank or adopt/foster a kid.

Haha, it tends to only happen in movies and tv, but hey if you have a best guy/girl friend, they obviously mean something to you (which is why its hard to keep a friendship like that going if you are with a different significant other...just like in the movie...) but most of the time other relationships don't work out b/c you have another 'best friend' in your life. kwim? lol. Anywho, I wouldn't be opposed to it. I had a best guy friend before I met DH, but now DH is my best friend. If he wasn't, who knows.

Frankly, it could happen to me. I had a lot of guy-friends that we were so close, people often wondered about us. Like 3 of them. One of them even asked me jokingly in 2012,but we laughed it off. I dont see it as impossible.
