Bahamas

I was hoping for some suggestions for all inclusive resorts/hotels at the Bahamas. Does anyone know of really great places?

Were still searching too- were open to other islands though (FI wants Antigua) If I see anything god I'll send it your way...

Of course we have looked into the typical Sandals.com and breezes.com, but were trying to find something not so 'popular' maybe for either a better deal or a more unique place????

Hi Mckennasa,

I've only been to Freeport Bahamas (which i heard is a lot quieter than Nassau) and the two most popular resorts there are Westin at Our Lucaya and Viva Wyndham. Before i take any trip I always check out www.tripadvisor.com to read honest reviews! So check it out and good luck!

I personally would never recommend taking your honeymoon in Nassau (my own opinion), but I have heard that Atlantis is really nice. My Fi and I are going to Riviera Maya, Mexico, and are staying at the El Dorado Resort & Spa (its comparable to Sandals, but much much more updated. I agree with Marerod80, always check out www.tripadvisor.com, it definitely helps.

Two questions....

1. Was Atlantis too busy, children, expensive??? My FI doesn't want to go there for our HM- b/c he thinks it is. We also read on a review that you think its affordable but spend an arm and leg once you get there???

2. Just curious whats wrong with Nassua?? We heard about it in a magazine review and they were positive.

Thansk for the help!!!

1. Atlantis is very expensive. I wanted to go there on vacation but it was WAY WAY WAY out of our budget so we went to Freeport instead and I loved it and sooooo affordable. Here's a link for a few pros and cons about Atlantis. Search this forum on Trip Advisor and you'll see others reviews: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g147417-i131-k1928158-Atlantis_Pro_s_Cons_Part_II-Paradise_Island_New_Providence_Island_Bahamas.html

2. Nassau is a big dumping ground for all the cruise ship passengers. Prices are hiked up and its a tourist trap. (So I've heard.)If you want to get away to an exclusive beautiful location near Nassau, you have to be prepared to pay more $$$.

However I've heard of smaller islands in the Bahamas that are decently priced and more secluded if that's what you're looking for. Nic Cage, Johnny Depp, Oprah all have homes on Eleuthera or Exuma and it just looks gorgeous!

HMM...

I have never been to Atlantis, just heard that it was nice. I dont think I would take my honeymoon there because I think it definitely would be very busy + children. I have been to Nassau though, and I felt like everywhere you turn there was someone trying to get money from you. People are very very pushy. Not something I would want to deal with on my honeymoon. (granted it was a cruise so that could have played a huge part) Unfortunately for me first impressions are hard to break. :o/ I read that you were thinking of Antigua...a friend of mine had her honeymoon there at the sandals and she said it was unbelievable. My travel agent also recommended the Sandals in Antigua and the one in St Lucia.

In my own opinion travel agents are the way to go...
Most of them have been to these places first hand and know how to strike a deal. Best part about travel agents are they can get the best deals on flights, because they go through bulk airfare, which is something that normal people like us don't have access to. Our airfare originally was going to cost us around $1200 round trip, but our travel agent was able to find us bulk airfare, which cut the price down to less than half that.

Hope this helps!!

My honeymoon will be in the Bahamas.

We're staying in Nassau, but in the West Bay, which is away from the tourist boat drop off. The Atlantis is a ferry away, its a good place to visit, not stay.

HMM: your FI is correct, Atlantis is expensive, very kid friendly and crowded.

Mckennasa: I don't think the Atlantis is all inclusive.

These are places that were on my travel agents list (please check out website and reviews first):
1. Ocean Reef Yacht Club and Resort (Freeport)
2. Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach (Freeport, all inclusive)
3. Royal Oasis Vacation Club (Freeport)
4. Xanadu Beach Resort and Marina (Freeport)
5. Sandyport Beaches Resort (Nassau)
6. Paradise Harbour Club & Marina (Nassau)
7. Paradise Island Beach Club (Nassau)
8. Wyndham Nassau Resort & Casino (Nassau)
