BE CAREFUL... Scams EVERYWHERE!!!!!

They can't stress it enough on the news and other sources of news.... NEVER give your personal information when you receive weird emails from your 'banks' 'credit card companies' ect saying things like you need to update your account, or account suspended!!!!

I just got one from "Bank of America" telling me my account was suspened becuase too many login errors from an unknown IP address and they wanted me to click on a link and update a bunch of account information.....

The first thing I did was go to the actual bank of america website I use to log in to my credit card accounts and sure enough, everything was just fine.... the email was a scam and i'll tell you it sure looked real to me. They had the logo and the site it directed you to seems secure.... but NEVER fall for it is what I've been told. Check your account first, and if you still think there is an issue, CALL customer service.

Just wanted to send everyone this alert since I just about fell for it myself!!!! BE CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE TO POST 8-31-11

I wanted to just give an update to this thread to further heed warning of this scam! I had clicked on the link that said it would direct me to where I could reinstate my account and even though I knew when the site opened it was a scam and I did not provide any information and closed the winder immediately...... it was just enough to plant an AWFUL AWFUL virus in my computer... my WORK computer that is! The virst spread and totaly wiped out my hard drive. Thank god for the magic of my IT department at work, they were able to erase my computer and reinstall everyting for me yesterday afternoon..... but if I were at home I would not be so lucky. I would have LOST FOR GOOD everything!!!!!! SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!!!!

Oh, and PHONE CALLS! I got a phone call from "GESA Credit Union" (a local CU) saying that my debit card had been suspended because of unusual activity just last week. I don't have a GESA debit card, so my first thought was someone had opened an account in my name. But then, when it wouldn't even tell me what the unusual activity was, I decided to hang up and call back. After a quick google search, I found it was a scam.

Yup, I get them all the time, but my bank is good about posting the scams on their website.

Just be sure to tell you parents and grandparents. They are not always as tech savy as we are and fall prey to these scams all the time.

I got one from BOA before too, saying something similar. It looked so real, but I could tell something was off. The bottom of the page, like with all the small print and copyright stuff, had a few typos. And 0's instead of O's. So sneaky!!!

I feel the same way as mlunavital92. As some one who works at a bank, I can tell you- we will NEVER EVER EVER EVAR ask you to update anything via a website through an email. EVER.  Just delete those emails the second you see them!
