Funny you should be posting this because I have been on the hunt for a good foundation and wondering if the top brands like MAC and Makeup Forever are worth the bucks!

In the past I have used Revlon Photoready Primer and Foundation.  I think these are really good products for the price...around $10-12 each.

However, I was very curious about products like Smashbox and Urban Decay so off to Ulta I went.  I had a coupon for Naked foundation from Urban Decay but they were out of my color.  When I asked the sales clerk if they had it in my color she advised that they didn't and suggested I try China Doll by Napolean.  There was less product and it was more expensive but I figured what the heck.

This stuff was $50~I NEVER pay this much for make-up but again I am willing to pay for good quality!  While I'm sure for some people this is a great product....I was hugely disappointed!  Honestly, I see NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever in this and Revlon photoready.  If I am going to pay that much for make-up I should be impressed or at least notice a difference.

I have tried a little more and a little less and I'm still not impressed.  The sales lady gave me a sample of the primer and I have even used both of them together and I'm just not havin' it!

That is of course just my opinion.  I am looking forward to purchasing the Naked foundation when I have used up the china doll stuff.  I think I will really like it.  I used my daughters one day and although it was too light for my complexion, I love the coverage it gave me.

DAaaaannng I am sorry this was so long.

Have you tried returning the China doll to Ulta? I don't know their policies-but if you spend $50, you better love it! They might understand because you didn't even go there for that anyways.

Hey Elise,

No, I have never tried returning make-up.  I didn't think you could!! I thought once you bought it you owned it.  Do I just tell them that I don't like it and I'm not pleased with the coverage?

Nichole -I think it depends on the store, but I'm pretty sure if it's within a certain time period, you can get a refund or at least a store credit. Hopefully you have the receipt still!

I haven't tried too many non-drug store brand foundations. Right now I'm using Almay, Truley Lasting Color.

I haven t tried photo 3462391-1

On a side note, I loove Mary kay. When I feel like splurging a bit I go in that direction!

Ladies, my cousin who is a makeup person (she owns way too much-lol) said that you can actually ask for free samples from stores like Sephora and try it and see if it is worth it!  This sounds like a great idea!  I hope this helps!
