Best way to store wedding gown for 7 months

Hi Ladies,

I bought my dress a month ago and the store gave me a decent vinyl bag. But I wonder if this is ok for the long term. Should I keep it hanging or store it flat?

Thanks!

I have to store mine for 7 months too. I was given a breathable cloth bag to store it in. They told me to take it out of the bag, put a clean sheet over it, put it back in the bag, and hang it in a dark closet. Not sure what the purpose of the sheet is since it's in the bag...

I read that the Container Store has wedding gown bags and boxes with acid-free paper. I think I will go there and pick one up. I've hard differing opinions about whether to hang it versus lay it flat. I'll have to do a little more reading. I don't know where the heck I can store it flat where my FI won't see it. That's a problem.

My wedding dress arrived last July and has been in my closet for the past 9 months. All I did was unzip the bag about 3 inches so it could breathe and hung it up in my closet. After 9 months, it is still perfect. I still have another year to go until I wear it. :0)

i stored my dress about a year and a half in the plastic we left the store with, i didn't do this by choice tho. the one thing i made sure of though was that the closet it was stored in was always cool and never got the slightest bit warm inside.

my dress stored well, however i would not trust it in just plastic if you can not trust how the temperature may flux. what my mom was supposed to do for me was buy white, dye free, cotton material and make a sort of bag to store my dress... that never happend, but i'm lucky my dress is in tact.

i'm also looking to preserve my dress.. don't know where exactly? or maybe i'll change my mind and do a trash the dress session.. we'll see.

Thanks ladies! I guess I'll get a cloth one just in case. I wouldn't want to take any chances with it.
