Beta fish centerpieces...

Flowers are so expensive and we knew that from the get go. We weren't exactly looking forward to picking a florist and don't even want to spend a lot of money in that field. We are considering beta fish in bowls as centerpieces instead of flowers. We would have votive candles around the bowl, alternating between clear and dark blue. We are NOT getting married at the beach though, actually at a lakeside gazebo with the reception at an old mansion on the same property. Our color is navy blue so we would opt for the blue betas, probably the males since they have the long flowy fins. A part of me thinks it may look goofy since it's not a beach theme. The other part thinks who cares, it's our money and our wedding and it will be different than the usual flower centerpiece. Ladies, what are your thoughts, I've been stressing over it and it's so silly?!?!

I love love love this idea!!!!  Betas are a great idea!  ONLY ONE PER BOWL!!!  Plus they make these awesome lighted marbels that  you can mix with other marbels for the base.  You can always add fake orchids or other flowers to the bowls as well.  I have one as a center piece in my dining room!  His name is Lenny!  Plus you can always give the little guys to a new home.  Poeple will be happy to take them home.  they are very low maintenance fish! I love the idea.  I might just even blog about it on my website.

We used betas as our cocktail hour centerpieces and they were fantastic. I only had them for the highboy tables, so it was less than ten fish and I found homes for them before the wedding a coordinated with those people to take them home after. We used the blue fish with silver and blue stones, and I decorated the bowls with blingy garland (no pics yet). Everyone thought it was very unique and fun and none of them died or anything.

We are doing tall vases, some white roses, rocks at the bottom and beta fish swimming in the middle.

I think its an awesome idea! I may have to steal it and use it at my wedding!! All the pictures I have seen are beautiful and dont look cheap at all. Some people can be a little too honest on this website.. and by too honest, I mean rude...  anyways, i think its an awesome idea! go for it!
