Big Island hotel suggestions please!

My husband and I are trying to put together a trip to the Big Island for our first anniversary in mid-June. We'd love some hotel suggestions. We'd like to stay someplace nice, but not over-the-top fancy (Fairmont & Four Seasons type hotels are definitely over budget).

Additionally, if we'd like to see both beaches & volcanoes, would it be better to spend 4 days on the Kohala/Kailua-Kona side, and 2 in Hilo? Or would we be okay staying on the sunnier side for the whole trip?

Thanks ladies!

I can't give you advice for the Big Island but Trip Advisor is a great resource, I always check places with them before I book!

I live on the big island. You can pm me if you have any questions on anything. I live on the hilo side. Best place to stay is waikoloa. If you stay at the marriott its reasonably priced and very beautiful. Beautiful weather yearround there.

If you want to see the volcano, I would suggest staying at a bed and breakfast right beside the volcano.  Then you don't have to try to drive and see the whole thing in one day.  It is really beautiful in that area and worth staying overnight.
