Big Living Room! How to make it 'look' smaller?

We are moving next week to a bigger 2 bedroom apt.

The living room  is HUGE. Since we can't get a new furniture set until AFTER the wedding, I need some ideas on how to close off the living room space and make it not look naked and empty- it looks big because of the dining room is near the living room.

I have no pictures of the model- but here is the floor plan if that helps.

Furniture we have ATM: we have one large suede couch, a slim chair, 2 end tables with lamps and a coffee table that is not ready to be placed in the living room yet (I have to sand it down and refinish it) Should I use the coffee table as a 'window' seat (it's rather short, but long and sturdy) or place it in the living room to take up space?

How about giving the living room a fourth "wall" by putting something along the open part of the floor plan?  For example, I've seen people put these Ikea bookshelves on their sides and use them for displaying knicknacks or something:

How about putting the photo 2875503-1

Also dont set your furniture pieces against the wall, kinda of like the couch thats against the patio..

I would suggest adding an area rug and just reposition the sofas.

Kinda like this...

I would suggest adding photo 2883312-1
