Bikram yoga for a broken back

OK I have been getting back pains and my doctor suggested trying bikram yoga to help it. I severely broke my back 2 years ago and every now and then it hurts.

Well I Really dont like yoga but I am going to drag FI with me. Any tips?

are you doing hot bikram or regular yoga?

I would honestly go alone so you can really focus...don't drag your FI through that...LOL!

Ok towels, water, and yoga mat. I want FI to come because I read that it helps with your skin and detox which he needs a lot.

I love bikram!!! do it do it do it! I have chronic back pain due to a car accident and it not only has helped my back tremendously but it is good for my skin and I have lost weight! Easy a small mean about 1 hour prior to practicing to avoid nausea

take breaks if you need them....don't push yourself too hard b/c you'll feel really crappy the next day. And drink ALLLLOT of water during the day, if you don't, you will be so dehydrated the next day - like a hangover but without the party :(.. Brutal.

But it's awesome...I loooove it and am completely addicted!!

Ok great. Is the heat dry or really humid? I can endure dry heat really well since I live in Tucson, but the humidity is what will kill me.

hmmm...I feel like it's more humid....there are humidifiers though. The idea is that it is supposed to be "uncomfortably hot"...my room is like 95 degrees or something nuts like that.

I would think it would be humid too just because a room full of sweating people does that. Ah I am dreading it, but I hear that after the third class its easier.

Yeah But It was with my aunts yoga instructor in LA. Herbie (yoga instructor) teaches it outside with a lift shade. I was talking with the yoga instructor at the local studio in Tucson and she said that they do all their classes completely indoors.

Is indoors how they usually do it or is it just this studio I have been talking to?

love bikram... once my gym membership runs out... i'm buying class packages for bikram...

big a normal size towel... and a hand towel.... the normal you'll want to lay on the top of your mat, b/c it will become slippery and the hand size to wipe sweat

bring a regular water bottle and one that you froze.... the frozen take in, trust me... and leave the regular outside in the locker room

you own yoga mat.... don't borrow

wear a sports bra and shorts.... its hot!

its indoor so they can regulate the heat

i love bikrams ... it's the only yoga i like.  the 24 hr in diamond bar has someone that does bikrams but not in a hot room.  the hot studio is very intense for beginners, so don't feel bad if you need to take a break.  drink lots of water (especially after to rehydrate), take breaks if you need to, bring a towel for sweat, wear something breathable, light and comfy.

my sister who does bikrams every week but not in a hot room did the hot room for the first time and got so dizzy because she totally pushed herself too hard and didn't drink water or rest.  just know your limits.  it's a great workout ... i have very bad circulation and back aches because of a prior car accident and i always feel better and sleep beter after bikrams!!  good luck!!  hope it helps your back!

I think FI will enjoy it after he gets used to it.

I loved the outdoor one. He set up the lift shade which was like a large green house type thing that would absorb the heat from the sun and that is how he heated the room.
