Birth Contol - how long before TTC to stop?

Hubby and I are going to start TTC in the winter...I've been on Birth Control for about 10 years and have heard varying things about how long before TTC to stop bc. Any advice?

My doctor told me that my period should be regular after 3 months, otherwise I should come back to see her. So far as I know I should give my body 3 months to get back on it (mind ive taken BC pills for over 13 years)

But I also know a girl who got pregnant the first month after she quit BC after 10 years on them, and girls who dont seem to get pregnant at all. I would say quit when the both of you are ready to be a mom & dad, and whatever happends happends after that.

My doctor told me to be off them for 2-3 months before trying. However, she said if I did end up pregnant in those 2-3 months its not a problem.

I too have been on them for over 10 years and will be starting my last pack on Friday. :)

through my research online, there's no reason why you can't get pregnant immediately after going off BC.  In fact, some women are extremely fertile the first two months off BC.  So I guess the rule of thumb is don't have unprotected sex if you're not ready to become pregnant.

I gave myself 2 full cycles being off the pill before TTC...but we still had protected sex during that time because i wanted the pill out of my system before even starting to try

my dr said that the new generation of BC pills are immediately reversible, meaning that once you're off, you're no longer preventing conception. and i've been on the same brand for at least 3-4 years, and taken others from 2002-2005/6.

that said, i am going off THIS WEEKEND (YAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!) and we will be abstaining until wedding night (Dec 11).

i'm reading a pretty good book, The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally by Christopher Williams, and it's very easy to understand. actually, i feel like i'm flying through it lol.

almost dunne-you are correct (at least according to my research) that's why girls that miss a pill can become pregnant.  Once you stop taking the pill, it is no longer in your system.  However, it may take 3 months before your own body starts to regulate your periods.

I think it depends on the type of BC.  I came off my Depo in June, and the Dr said it could take up to 2 years.  =(  I've had one semi-light period since then, and one "ghost" period.  I had the breast tenderness, the cramping, the mood siwngs, bloating, but no actual Aunt Flo.  =(

While your body may take a few months to start regulating itself again, I wish I would have gone off sooner so that I could start charting my cycles or at least becoming familiar with them-like the signs for ovulation and how long they are, etc. . . I would be ahead of the game in that area.

I promised to get back at you as soon as I knew more. Well my period is back completely, and that's after 1 month after I quit my BP pills. I have been on them for over 13 years, and since 3 years I didnt had any period at all anymore. So at first I was kinda sceptic, but everything is included: mood swings, cramps, back pain, and bleedings.

So I have no actual advice for you, besides that you can be on a normal period after 1 month

just went to visit my OB-GYn yesterday and she said that you should get off the pill one month before you start trying. That's it! Good luck everyone!
