I've heard that birth control pills can lower your sex drive. Anyone ever experience this?
I have- I'm on seasonique which is supposed to be the worst one for libido- it sucks I feel bad for my hubby - luckily hes really understanding!
I never realized that I had such a low libido until AFTER I went off BC pills. I guess I just got used to only wanting intimacy occasionally.
When I went off BC it was like I was completely different. DH didn't have to try to coerce me to DTD...I was more of a willing participant (if that makes sense)...and it was definitely more enjoyable because I felt more in the moment.
So for me BC definitely effected my libido.
I've only ever been DTD while on BC, so I don't know the difference. But what I can say is that FI has no complaints about how often, because it seems like we both equally initiate and enjoy on a very regular basis. BUT what I do know is that different BC brands have different levels of "potency", for lack of a better term. Quite a while ago my doctor put me on a "lighter potency" BC and I lost weight, noticed my AF got a bit heavier (but nothing too bad), etc. Still very effective, but probably allows for a better libido too.
DH and I have never DTD while I was off of BC...I've never thought about it but Lucky has an interesting point!! Makes me want to get off the pill now lol
yes, it really sucks! Ive been on it for 7yrs and cant wait to stop taking it in 2 months!!!!!!!!!!
YES! i don't remember which one I was on at the time, I 've tried a bunch. But ya, had absoluetly no interest for months!
I honestly wouldn't know since I've been on them since I was 15, but I feel I go through ups and downs like women who aren't on it.
Oh yeah it affects me. I could go forever without DTD on the pill and I feel awful about it for my DH, but I'm going to stay on it until we decide to conceive b/c I do not want a surprise pregnancy.
YES - BC really effects me that way. I have just stopped taking it and WOW it is amazing how much I feel the difference. I want to DTD more and whats even better is when we are DTD everythings FEELS better now. I wish I'd stopped BC sooner.
A few years ago I did speack to my doctor about it and we tried me on about 4 different brands of pill but I didn't see any real difference on any of them. So for me the brand of pill didn't seem to make much difference. I did give up after trying 4 though so maybe I wouldn't found one if I continued.
LOL...Gosh I didn't know that...I have been on Seasonique for years, and I just came off. If I have a low libido now...DH better hide!!!
YES. I am on Seasonale and seriously, I hardly ever have the desire to initiate the deed. But, that has led to some squabbles between FI and I so I have been trying to go out of my way to initiate even when I may not feel like it. We are waiting 2 years before we TTC, so I guess he'll just have to deal with it for 2 more years.
And yes, I have gone off the pill before, and my libido was through the roof!
Hmmm, I find this interesting. I never go through droughts like that and I definitely initiate...its like 50/50 for us...and DTD is really frequent for us. Maybe its just me, or maybe its the brand I'm on.
Totally, my bc pills (lo estrogen fe) totally slows my libido!!! I mean sex once a is totally fine for me which sucks for my fiance! lol.
Now when im NOT on them, im like ready to go!!! It sucks but what can you do.
wow no , fi says i have the male libido in our relationship lol
Not for me... I my libido has always been high even on BC.
Very interesting. I'm going to talk to my Dr. about this.
Mine is definitely affected :-( I am actually going to see the doctor about it next week. It's weird because I know low dosage pills are supposed to ease various side effects, but mine seem to have gotten worse when I got on OTC Lo. My FI and I talk about it a lot now, and I know he hates it!
I blame it on the pill as well! I'm switching to a hormone-free IUD on Nov 4th! I will let you know if I notice a difference (*cross your fingers for me!*)
Omg I just started using BC and my sex drive has increased SO much! I want it ALL the time. I think BC affects people differently.. bc every body is different.
