black or brown bridesmaids dresses

Ok so this post isn't exactly about *THE* dress, it's about bridesmaids dresses! What do you think about black or brown bridesmaids dresses? I think they can look very modern and formal, especially for a black and white themed wedding. My dad seems to think dark dresses are a bad idea, and that everyone will look like they are at a funeral.

Black can be ok but I do think it looks kind of funeral-y. I like the look of brown, which is a classic color that will never go out of style.

I like brown, though it really depends on the cut and style of dress. Are you having a formal wedding? Brown and black make me think formal and classy.

What other colors are you thinking of?

I think black could look very elegant and I love the color brown so I'd have to say brown would look good as well.

yeah, I agree with elizabeth1017, black can look very elegant, but brown can look nice as well. Especially for a fall or maybe even a spring wedding? It's a nature-y color.

I like both colors... if it seems to dark it could be lightened up with a nice scarf or sash?

We don't have a bridal party, just a MOH/BM, but my sister(MOH) will be wearing a black dress.  I think my Mom is going to wear black as well.  Our wedding colors are white, pearl and black so they fit into our color scheme.  In general, I think black looks really elegant and since our venue is a ballroom I think it fits really well.

i think using brown is tricky - the only way you can have brown dresses, is if the men are in a khaki color - brown dresses and black suits just doesnt work

Black dresses are very elegant, depending on the look you are going for :)

my girls wore brown dresses and it looked great (our colors are brown and green). Our guys wore tan suits but I think it could work with a dark tux with brown accents. We got our dresses from Ann Taylor. Here's how it worked for us:

Actually, you can do brown dresses with black tuxes...it's a misconception that black and brown don't go together.  They totally work and I've seen it done a bunch of times. Our GM's are wearing black tuxes with dark brown vests and ties and it looks very classy...

I am doing black bridesmaid dresses. Very Simple, full length gowns like this, and then adding a broch to it. Also having deep red bouquets to make it pop out, and I dont think it will look funeral-y at all! I am doing black photo 100532-1

I've had 2 close friends have brown as their color and have black tuxes.  It looked really sharp together.

I like them both :)  My girls are wearing black and we are having bright flowers to sort of 'pop' off the dress.  I think it's a flattering color for everyone as well.

I think black or brown dresses can look very elegant. Especially if the wedding is in the evening. My girls wore black and I don't think it looked like a funeral at all. I thought they all looked classy. They wore matching burgundy pashminas and carried red bouquets, for a pop of color.

We are doing black bridesmaid dresses. To me, not only does it look classic, but then I'm completely the focus on attention! Haha, how bad is that? I wanted something that my girls would HONESTLY wear again. They are little cocktail dresses, so cute. I actually gave the girls ten different satin cocktail dresses to choose from and they all picked the same one! LOL. It is on my page.
