BM dresses match GM?

My BM are wearing beautiful chocolate brown dresses and I am trying to figure out the best colors for the GM. I really like the blck tuxs with the chocolate brown vests/tie but my sister (also miad of honor) says that brown and black is tacky! I dont want to look back 20 years from now and think what was I thinking. Does anyone have advice on the colors????
Thanks!!!!

I don't think it's tacky. What I would do if I were you is take one of the dresses into the tux shop and play with different ensembles. See what fabrics compliment the dresses and in what shades. Maybe a black tux with a black shirt & chocolate vest & tie would look great. Or maybe just the tie- etc. I think it's one of those 'gotta see in person' situations. I personally wear black and brown together from time to time and I think it can definitely work. *shrug*

I think you'll be fine- and bottom line- if YOU like it- do it! (and we'll all be here to chime in with suggestions if you want them!)

i think black & brown will be ok - but like mt2b--- def go in an play with the swatches to get a better idea of cool borwn versus warm brown... who knows - you may change your mind to brown suits w/ creme tie or stick with black tuxes??

i say go for it if it's exactly as you envision it, it's your wedding after all :)

I was recently in the same boat. My BM are wearing a deep olive green color, and I had no clue what color to choose for the guys. I almost went with the brown vests/tie, but decided to choose a latte color for the guys. Its almost like a dark ivory or champagne color. (our colors are olive green, mocha, white, and different shades of ivory) In my opinion, I dont think the brown and black looks tacky at all, but you definitely have a lot of options to choose from.

HTH!! :o)

Shades of browns go with just about any color. Maybe try to match another color in your color scheme to the dresses.

Thats totally up to you. If you like it, go for it. We're doing 2 totally different colors, navy blue on BM and red on GM. We're also bringing in a BM dress to pick out the tux colors, that is a great idea. Do whatever you feel is right, but by no means do they have to match!

black and brown are very classic. i don't believe they are tacky looks. if you have time and a dress that is close in color to the chocolate you are having your BMs wear, why don't you do trail run? i need to see some ideas come to life before i can fully grasp the concept, maybe that will help make your decision.

the GMs at my wedding wore brown barongs with black slacks and all black vans.. and they looked great.
=) good luck!

yep, everyone on here is right, they don't have to match. My BMs wore black dresses and the GM wore black suits, white shirts with burgundy ties. As long as everything works together "somehow" I think it's all good.

Is there a secondary color you're using that is a little brighter? Maybe have the guys in brown vests and a colored tie to coordinate with the flowers? Even a patterned tie would work. You have lots of options.

Good luck!

I am also doing chocolate brown or my BM dresses are called espresso, same thing. Anyways, I too was thinking brown tie/vest with black tux may look funny even though brown is neutral and goes with everything. I really like what April posted. Brown suits and ties. My accent color is green (sage or Lime) so I wouldnt want the GM in green. Every little detail has been so hard for me to decide.

- I agree the brown suits seems to flow so nice!
- You could take a different shade of the brown family/ beige
- You and FI should go to a tux place and play around with the idea- to see the different color combinations...

I think you'll be fine, it will look elegant, and stunning...

You could definitely make it work. I agree with at least taking a swatch with you to the tux shop to see what they have. I did it a little different... My BMs wore victorian lilac gowns and my GMs wore sage (or MW called it peridot) vest & tie with the black tux. To tie it all together I had the BM bouquets with whites & greens and the GMs bouts with purple. It looked really nice and the boys weren't mad at me for making them wear purple. :)

My friend had us in chocolate dresses. The guys wore brown vests with their black tuxes. I was unsure until I saw it. It looked AWESOME!! I looked through my pics and only have them of the girls. . . :( But I promise it looked good. They got a lot of compliments.

I think brown ties and vests can work with a black tux if the fabric of the vests has some black in it. Most do...either a small pattern or what they call "shots" where there are black threads running with the bronze-y color. Brown is SO popular these days that tux shops are making it work.

Another option is to choose a contrasting color for the GMs. Maybe latte?

These are all from Men's Wearhouse. You can look there and at other tux rentals and see what your best option is!
