boarding while on vacation

Where do you board your pets while on vacation? Typically we leave ours with my in laws, but after some major falling out we can't trust them being in the same town as us, let alone caring for our babies. So I think they will board at my job, but its SO expensive. Especially for 4 pets!

We either leave ours with my ILs or my mom.  Usually we are only gone 1-2 nights.  When we went for our wedding/HM trip, we had my cousin house-sit for us and watch Stew.  It worked out really good that way...so if you have someone you can really trust, maybe they could stay at your place?

Kbutler, that's where I work lol

Unfortunately we live in a different city so anyone that could stay at our house would have to take a week off work/school to do so.

We usually take him with us but this weekend we can't so we're taking him to Canine College - it's this awesome doggie day care/boarding place close to where I live. I took Mongo there for day care and he slept the ENTIRE night after I brought him home so I know he must of had fun :) haha

Aw...that sucks about the falling out, because that's what we do: leave him with "grandma".  They both love it, him because he's around kids and her because she just loves him.

I've never boarded elsewhere.

Do you have a friend, maybe, who could watch them?

FI's brother usually comes down and stays at our place when we go out of town it's a two-fold favor he gets to get out of his house for a few days and we get a dog, cat, lizard sitter. When we move back down south we'll probably take them to my mom to watch for us. I've only ever had to leave them at work once when FI's brother decided to move to the virgin islands but he came back after a month and the girls I used to work with took great care of them.

We board ours at Broadview Kennels. They are behind our vet so its nice to have them close. They charge $12/day and are very nice.

We use a local vet for boarding Izzy, and usually just have a friend check in on our cat at home when we go out of town. Izzy has a great time at the kennel, probably because the office staff are in love with her and let her hang out with them up front instead of in her run :) And of course, I'm not complaining. It runs about $23/night for the largest size run in the kennel, but I think we could board her for as little as $15 if we were ok with her having a smaller space (we're not).

Sarah, I just looked at Broadview kennels. Those rates are fantastic! Unfortunately its a little out of the way from us and they don't have daycamp for the pups...

I was looking at the place 4 blocks from DIA, but they dont do cats. There's a place right by our house thats super inexpensive and has daycamp and does cats as well, but their hours suck and we would have to board the pets for 2 days longer just because of when our flight leaves and returns. SO.... it's looking like they will be staying at the petshotel. I get a discount, but its still more expensive than other places. But the hours work... Blah

Yeah they don't have day camp included :(

Right next door is a training facility and that is where they go if you pay extra for day camp ($10/day extra)

I just pay $3 extra to get them taken on walks daily.

Petshotel sounds nice though!

We board our 2 dogs and cat at a really great clinic about half an hour south of us.  It's pretty reasonable and they take SUCH good care of our animals.  Our pets are so happy to see us when we get back, but they don't freak out about being dropped off.  (My cat is pretty much happy as long as she's getting fed regularly)  :)
