BOOKING HONEYMOON LATE....:-/

Hi ladies,

Has anyone ever booked their honeymoon super late...like a month before the wedding??? We havent booked one yet and we won't have the money to book it until April or may. Our wedding is in June! We have kids and we want one more shortly after we marry so we fear that if we don't take the honeymoon now then we probably won't get to anytime!

Is it unwise to book one so close to the wedding?

I think the main issue will be price. :( Where are you looking to go?

It will be super pricey.  I can say that much.  I would advice going through a wholesale (travel agent) that allow you to pay as you go.  That way whatever you do have can be used as a down payment.  Until you can pay off the rest.  If you dont and mind paying the more expensive price then you can always save up until you get it all.  Hopefully you can catch a mid-night early morning sale for late bookings.

If you are flexible on the location, you could always keep an eye out for special travel deals. Groupon, SniqueAway and other sites have awesome deals that are typically available for a limited time. So if you wait until April, you can look into one of those "last minute vacations" and possibly book something that way. They are usually much cheaper and still feature some amazing locations!

Not knowing where you want to go I can advise that airfare is already going up rapidly.  (Just booked our flight.)  However, you can get great prices on cruises right now.

I would say start doing research also.  FI and I just booked a vacation in vegas for April.  We booked through Delta vacations and was able to put a deposit down and pay the rest in thirty days. Look into that option, alot of vacation sights allow it.

We got married in October and are going on our honeymoon to HI March 16.  I actually like that we waited...we're really looking forward to it and it feels like an extension to the wedding.  I think if we had gone right after the wedding, we would've been super tired and wouldn't have been able to save like we have now.

DH is infamous for booking trips late and not because he forgot, he does it on purpose. He spent summers in college backpacking and loves spending hours and ours researching. He took me on a Eurotrip with no destination n mind, it was exciting and romantic, the only part planned was our first few days. The best part about it is you can do anything, flight too much for one place? Oh well go somewhere else just as magical! That's my advice, research and you won't be stuck with ridiculous prices. Actually sometimes it's cheaper. I booked a cruise last minute and I had gotten fair just about half off. The key is to be flexible.
