Bounced Check as wedding gift?

So....has this happened to anyone? One of my friends gave me a temporary check for $50.00 that did not go through, so they charged me $10 return check fee.  Should I say anything to her? The wedding was March 28th, is it too late?  I don't feel like I should mention it to her, she will probably notice that the money wasn't taken out, but it kind of annoys me that I am paying $10 for her check not to work!! :-( Any ideas?

OMG, that is awful. I wouldn't say anything. I think she probably already knows that it bounced from her bank. She is probably pretty embarrassed about this. I know I would be!!

Wow - I have no advice in that situation. Did your bank return the cheque to you? If so - she might not really notice it...

I think I would just leave it as is unless she mentions it.

I think I would not say anything. It really stinks that you have to pay for the bounced check. However, I think that it would be really uncomfortable and awkward to mention it to her. If she evetually asks you why you did not cash the check, then i would mention to her that the check bounced- but only if she asks.

Ditto to everyone.  That's a tough situation, but it was a gift and not money she owed you or anything.  I would just let it go, unless she mentions something.

I would feel awkward brining it up to her as well. But it really stinks = ( And since it was a temporary check instead of a regular one she might not notice

I most likely wouldn't say anything. It was a gift and not mandatory.

No, I wouldn't say anything. If that were me, I'd probably figure it out and be mortified. It sucks, though, that you had to pay the fee, but Vderilus is right, it was a gift, not madatory.

It would be uncomfy. But you should of deposited check asap. thats what i did for bridal shower money we got. but some family memebers were like dont cash the check yet...but did so. thinking the faster the better for them to be up to date on account.

I wouldn't say anything to her if I were you. She'll find out soon enough!

I would probably mention it if she was really close to me, but if not then probably no.

find out if it has already been presented twice...that's the max the banks will allow...and if it has and you can't try to deposit it again, i actually suggest you say something to her...not about the fee though....maybe she made an accounting error and its probably affecting more than just your gift check....

I would take it to HER bank to cash it.  Then your bank cant charge you the $10 fee.  Unless of course she doesn't live in the same town....

Is your friend very young? Maybe she doesn't know how checks work:

I remember when I first opened a checking account when I was 18 they gave me a booklet of temp checks while I waited for my addressed checks and debit card to come in. I'd never had a bank account before, I didn't know that the temp checks were any different than the regular ones! I tried to write a check for groceries at Wal-mart and got all pissed off when the cashier told me they don't take temp. checks!! If the first time I'd tried to write a check was as a gift for a friend's wedding, I never would have known I was writing a temp. check or that the bank might not accept it..... and she may never hear anything about a bounced check from her bank because it may just be that your bank won't accept a temp. check. If you see her frequently and are able to bring it up in conversation, then do it. But in spite of everything else don't make a special phone call or email to talk to her about it. That would come off as confrontational and it's a sensitive subject.

Don't say anything. I can't imagine if someone told me that, I would be beyond mortified and probably not be able to speak to that person for a long time because I would be too embarassed.

Sucks that you had to pay $10 though.
