BRIDAL GOWN 2 SIZES TOO SMALL!!!

Luckily I am not one of those brides!!!  The day I ordered my gown, I was dead set on ordering a size 8 or 10.  I pleaded with the owner, who took my measurements; however he was against it. Why you ask? Well, because there was no room to let out the dress if I did not lose the weight and if I gained weight due to the stress of trying to lose weight to get to my perfect size I would be in big trouble and without a dress.

So, I left the bridal salon after having ordered my perfect gown, in my size today.  A size 12.

Measurements:  Bust 37; Waist 31; Hips 42

Approx. Gown Arrival Date: May 20, 2012

Guess what? Since I ordered my gown on January 20th I worked out 3 times.  Today is February 12th and I have yet to get into a normal workout routine (whatever normal is).

All I can say is I am thrilled I listened to the salon owner and order a dress in my current size.  I am going to lose the weight....stressfree!!!!

So brides please order your correct size.  If you are at a bridal salon and they allow you to order your dress a size or 2 too small run out of the store and never look back.  Its not worth the STRESS.  The stress will add weight and may affect your skin.

Great advice! I have seen and heard of so many women doing this, only to see their gowns to wind up in the classifieds. Not necessarily because they aren't able to lose the weight, but just because their expectations aren't realistic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with how you are now! Women have such a hard time accepting their own bodies (Lord knows that I'm guilty of it), and there is nothing wrong with having a goal. However, if you order a gown that is too small you are setting yourself up for a lot of heartache.

Besides, think how awesome it's going to feel when you go to try on that gown and they have to take it in! I'm so glad that you got your dream gown :)

And welcome to PW honey!

Brides may want to note that wedding gown sizes are not true to current street size clothing. Wedding gowns tend to run 2 sizes smaller. If you are normally a size 10, you'd be a 14 in wedding gowns. Nothing to fear of course, it's just a number!

This is because back in the day, clothing sizes got adjusted because the bodies were changing (people were eating more when times weren't tough), but the bridal industry didn't change their sizing.

Here's more info:http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/01/05/why-are-bridal-dress-sizes-weird/

Remember it's always easier to alter a dress smaller than add fabric and let it out!

Banks, good luck with your workouts! Let us know how it all works out! :D

Agreed, I don't understand why people think it's so important to be a certain size. Isn't it more important to be healthy? Bridal sizes run small and in my opinion it's better to order a larger size and look good than sqeeze in to something smaller and look like a stuffed sausage and be uncomfortable.

This is so true! I'm usually a size 5-6 so ordered a size 8. I ended up gaining a few pounds since then though, and now I need to lose a few inches before I can fit into my dress!

I forgot to add that I have a 10 month old and I have yet to get back to my pre-preggo weight. If I had it my way I would have lost the weight at 5 months postpartum. But let's get real...I am a working mom who enjoys spending time with my sweet pea! I have used her as weights but just playing around. I will keep you guys posted on my progress. That dress is in my tunnel vision and and yes Ridegrl3 I can't wait til my dress comes in a size too large lol!!!

I ordered my dress 2 sizes smaller. Had a slight freak out when the dress first came in because it didn't fit, however it fits perfectly now. I knew I was going to lose the weight. I started at an 18 and was a 16 by the time I went for dress fittings. I had my routine in place and Bootcamp has really been kicking my butt. My size 12 dress will just fit that much sweeter! :)
