Bridal Party Line Up At Alter

While out to lunch with my sister and mom we got into a discussion about how the bridal party should be lined up at the alter during the ceremony. They both think I should have the MOH next to me and then the shortest to tallest bms lined up after her. I would like to have the MOH next to me and then the bms in order of tallest to shortest. How did everyone else decide on lining people up for the wedding? From what I can remeber about a wedding I was last in the shortest person (myself) was the furthest away from the bride. Thanks ladies!

I have to see them all together to see who will walk with who but I was figuring on having it tallest to shortest since the shortest is my FSIL and the person I'm the least closest to in my bridal party. It's not that I don't like her but I just want my friends closer to me when I'm up there saying my vows.

I did not purposefully do tallest to shortest after the MOH (who is only five feet tall).  I put the people closest to me closest, regardless of height.  It turned out to be tallest to shortest after her (6'3", 6'3", 5'10", 5'4")

I think that it depends on if there is stairs.... Usually it is tallest to shortest if it is a flat area BUT if it is stairs the last time I was in a wedding we did shortest to tallest because there was stairs BUT they should figure this out at your rehersal....

Pink that is actually what I was hoping to do (the people I'm closest to closest to me) but then I will have the MOH who is 5'3", a bm who is 5'5", bm who is 5'10", bm who is 5'6" and then the last bm who is 5'5". My sister and mom swear this will look stupid no matter what although since it's a full ceremony they will be sitting for a period of time.

Two of the people on my side were guys.  They were the closest people to me.  They went to the bachelorette party and even was in the room for part of the time while I was getting ready!

Meg - I would not worry about that at all.  During the ceremony, there are so few shots with everyone in them.  You choose your friends how you want them.  Seriously :)  You can always reorganize for the more formal portraits!

I dont have a MOH but Mine is tallest to shortest.

We also may have FSIL stand on FI's side with the guys. She said she's totally cool with it. I was afraid of not being balanced then I decided 4 girls and 2 guys is fine. BUT we are having the ring bearer walk up with his mom and a my dog walk up with FSIL so its going to be a little crowded if we don't split them up.

Agree with Pink!  My MOH was the shortest of the bunch, but she definately had to stand next to me... there was no way she'd be at the end.  I ended up choosing order based on who I was closest to.  Also, like Pink said, I have very few pics where you can see all of us standing up there.

We did it as democratically as we could so that we wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings by the order (that is why most people do tallest to shortest).  All of our BP was pretty equal in height so that made it harder for us.  I had 2 MOHs, so they were the 1st 2 next to me... DH's BM was next to him.  The rest of it, we determined how we wanted the BP paired with each other as they walked out.

GL figuring it out.  Go with what you are most comfortable with.

I agree with blingbride. My MOHs were next to me, and then since we had stairs, it went shortest to tallest.

I don't have any good pictures of it close-up:

My Jr. Bridesmaid was actually at the bottom of the stairs.

hmm.... maybe i'm the odd ball out on this but i thought that you were supposed to line them up in order of closeness to the bride.  moh first followed by the rest?

i'm thinking like caribear and kblovelee... i intended to pair them up by closeness to me & dh, his BM wth my MH, his next with my next, and the shall walk in that order followed by the Jr. BM's (our daughters) , which shall "sweep" themselves in between me & MOH landing IN FRONT of MOH & next BM at a slight angle... same thing with Jr. GM's (sons)...  and Ring Bearers (son which will only be 18 mo  & 3) to end up smack in the middle of me  & dh... unless they hold a sign... then I may have them stand directly behind us facing the guest keeping the sign out (idk).. guess, thats my interpretation of a family style line up :)

My bridal party will be going from 5'2" (on a good day) to 5'7" to 5'5".  But when my MaidOH (5'2") stands, she'll be another few inches taller due to her addiction to 3-4 inch heels!
