What is it? Why have one? Is it expected? Is it necessary?
Ususally it is an excuse for women to get together and give the bride presents! Ha! Ha!
Yeah, that's true, to "shower" the bride w/ gifts - although I don't get the purpose, as we'll get presents at the wedding too... lmao
Anyway, since I'm so not into this girly stuff, we decided to have a couple shower or "boy and girl shower", whatever you call it. I told my FI, if he wants to receive more gifts, he'd better stick w/ me and go thru this shower with me.
Who's supposed to arrange the shower?
I think your MOH.
And sometimes a parent might put one together just for family members.
You don't have to have a shower it's really up to you if this is something you want. I think its a good idea b/c like us we moved in together a year ago and have nothing that we can really cook with or entertain people. My friends have always wanted to do a shower for me b/c I have drove them crazy since I meet my fiance lol. At the end of the day anything goes
The bridal shower is the day that the bride is showered with gifts. You can get things that are personal, like lingerie or soaps & lotions--things that are gifts for just you. OR, you can get gifts from things off of your registry. It all depends on how the shower is set up. It is not expected and it is not necessary, but I think it is fun. You get to hang out with all your girls (if you have a girlfriends only shower) or the women in your family (if you have a family & friends shower).
Some people do "month themes," and they will assign each guest a month, and the guest is supposed to give you gifts related to that month. I.E. June = picnic basket & wine, December = holiday decorations, snow shovel (ha ha!)
Some people do "room themes" and they will assign each guest a room of the house to buy gifts for. I.E. office = organizers, lamps, frames, bathroom = towels, oils, soaps, etc.
Some people do "lingerie parties" and each guest brings you different lingerie! Some of it you will laugh at, and some of it you will love. Some people like to keep these gifts "anonymous," so that you don't think of Aunt Judy every time you put on that sexy black teddy... ha ha ha!
