Bridesmaid contract

They were having a big discussion on the radio this morning about brides giving bridesmaids a contract--specifically that they won't gain weight for the time of the wedding! While both DJs and callers did seem out of touch when it comes to wedding ettiquette, it made for an interesting discussion!

Have any of you heard of this?

No but if a bride ever handed me one of those I'd hand it right back to her.

Wow!!! All I require from BMs are to spend the night at my house the night before the wedding. So we can all get ready together and have some bonding time. Also, to make sure everyone is there on time for pre-wedding pictures..and of course to look beautiful on the wedding day.

I think drafting a contract for your BMs are a bit TOO MUCH!!!

Maybe the weight thing isn't such a good idea but the "don't drop out" contract may be useful, just kidding

Tell me about a bridezilla...
I think that's the most BS thing to do. There's certain things that can't be controlled. That person gets a WATEVER...

Yeah, I was really surprised by all the people calling in to say "it's not a big deal, it's YOUR day, so if they are really your friend, they'd do it." Yuck-o. I'm glad I don't have friends like that! :)

As for me, I told my girls that being a bridesmaid would aquire some work and money--basically meaning I wasn't able to pay for their dresses and it would require them some travel. I just didn't want them to feel blindsighted after they had accepted. They all gladly accepted and I'm trying really hard to make the monetary hit not be too much. I could NEVER give them a contract about weight or anything like that.

It's so weird you brought that up, I was going to post something about the contract today. I heard about it on the radio this morning as well. How rude is that, I couldn't imagine giving an ultimatum over something so pety to anyone of my friends. Your a bridesmaid because your close with someone, your looks should not be a deal breaker. Some people just get way to caught up everything being "perfect" and they completely lose touch with what the day is about. It's sad that something that cold even exists.

I really get tired of the "it's your day thing". Yes it is your and it's about you and FI. But what would that date be without friends and family? Is your life really gonna be over because a bridesmaid put on a few? Sometimes I want to shake brides and tell them to wake up. Just because you're a bride does not mean that you are super human, nor can you expect all of your friends and family to be also.

I wonder where this attitude comes from????

OMG! Too much! I think bridezillas have lost all reason as to why they're getting married. HELLO!?!?!? And honestly, I completely skipped the whole bridesmaid thing and it was one of the best wedding-related decisions I made.

Finally, I am a fan of treating BMs like grown-ups...let them chose their own dress and shoes (you can dictate color/fabric for continuity)...and that way if they gain weight, get preggers or whatever, it's all good.

JMHO.
