Bridesmaid dress for a wedding dress

Has anyone done this? Looking around I've had a really hard time finding stark white dresses - hence my last post about the Jenny Yoo BM dress. Looking further, and at some suggestions from the other thread, I found a bunch of BM dresses I loved too which did come in white (even if their bridal dresses only came in ivory!), more than the traditional bridal lines. Has anyone ordered a BM dress instead of a traditional wedding dress? Where did you find yours? Did they still offer good service?

I thought about doing this too, since I was looking for something simple and not ballgown-ey. (I ended up ordering a dress from Olivialuca.com, and am thrilled with it--highly recommend!)

There is a a photo album on the Veilfo site with white bridesmaid dresses that would work for brides:

Good luck!

They are on the Alvina Valenta website. You just have to click the pic for the bridesmaid dresses and it will show you pics of her bridesmaid dresses from the last 8 or 10 seasons.

You know what, if you got that dress in white, added a birdcage veil, it would look very old hollywood. Ooh la la

That green AV dress looks really similar to the one you originally wanted, Champ! And I really like the one you posted too. So many options...

I do really love the green one but I'm also loving the lace idea! My FSIL said dresses of that style (like the green AV) are very difficult to pull off for any body type. Has anyone found that to be true?

That was my thread =o) I posted it a while ago, because I thought brides with a budget and or wanting a simple dress should know that a lot of bridesmaids dresses come in white, ivory and antique and come in soooo many styles that could easily be passed off as a wedding gown, poofy, mermaid, a- frame, all the styles for half the price ;o).

I wore a bridesmaids dress for my wedding, because I wanted a simple style in dupioni silk. For some reason finding a wedding gown in this material was really hard. So I got an a-frame and had it altered. I made it so it was more narrow in the front and had a train in the back, I added a broach where the train bustled to give it a little something extra.

"My FSIL said dresses of that style (like the green AV) are very difficult to pull off for any body type"...I think she has a point! Maybe not ANY body type, but many body types. My SIL considered having me and her sister wear dresses like this one (but from Jenny Yoo) when we were her BMs. I loved it, but her sister absolutely hated it, and I have to admit, going back to look at the photos, that it's a style you really have to comfortable in to pull off - otherwise it can look kind of sloppy. Good posture and a flat stomach help too - but then again, when don't they? =)

I selected a bridesmaid dress as well because I didn't want to wear white. I chose a champagne color similar to the one above. Gorgeous Alvina Valenta dress from a few seasons ago. The side benefit is that I didn't have to spend as much money either. Turns out the pastel colors made me look too cute (I'm short too) so I decided a neutral would be best.
