Bridesmaid's Hair

I am thinking about how the whole "getting dressed" process will go the day of the wedding. And i was wondering what is the "norm", as far as the bridesmaid's hair goes? Should i pay for their hair? Should i hire someone to come and do all of their hair? Do i suggest they do their own hair? Or go to someone they prefer?

I know that it would be a little more convenient to have someone come over and just get everyone dolled up but wasnt really sure.

One of my bridesmaids (shes my sister in law) is a hair stylist and she will be doing my hair and make up as her gift to me. I really dont want to burden her with the role of doing EVERYONE else.

my sister had everyone do their hair the same style but they had an option of going to the hair stylist with her or going somewhere else. it was good. I think i will have the girsl do whatever they want as far as hairstyle goes and show me what they were thinking to do. i think it is best for them to go somewhere else for their hair and meet you at the hotel because it will be chaotic! trust me! lol

All my bridesmaids went and got their own hair done by the shops they normally go to. They told me up front that is what they wanted to do and I didn't mind that they didn't wear their hair the same, which would have been impossible anyway because everyone had different hair lengths. Same thing for makeup. At first we were all going to have it done by Mary Kay, but the moments leading to the actual day were so hectic that it couldn't be done so my stepson who is a makeup artist did mine and everyone got their make up done on their own as well. If you have the extra money to do that for your bridesmaids, that would be a nice gift, but if not I am sure they wouldn't mind getting their own hair and make up done.

All the weddings I've been part of, my own included, had all the BMs go together with the bride. In some cases the bride pays as the thank-you gift, but that's certainly not required. I coudn't afford it, but I did work to find a reasonably priced stylist. I found one who did hair and makeup for $30 and my girls were okay with that.

I suppose you could have them all go wherever they wanted, but you run the risk of not having everyone together when you need them. If you all go together then you can get an idea from the salon about how long it will take and plan the rest of your Day Of schedule better.

I let all my girls pick how they wanted to their hair, they were all different and I loved it! I think that's a matter of personal preference for you.

I agree-there is no right or wrong answer!

It depends on how you want your day to go. I personally had a bad experience where I was in a wedding and my friend made us girls pay $150 for hair and makeup and since then I vowed I would pay for my BM's hair and makeup. I was lucky I found an amazing MUA for cheap, and hair wasn't TOO expensive. I had fun with everybody at the salon, so it is really up to you.

If you let them do their own thing, make sure you have meet at the venue or whatever at a certain time (give yourself extra time b/c someone is always late!) GL!

And I totally understand you don't want to burden your one bm that is doing your hair as a gift to you, but maybe you could ask if she would be willing to get paid to do the other girls too? She might charge less than an actual salon, but still be compensated for all her hard work :)

I think it depends on the situation of your bridesmaids. The last wedding that I was in, alot of the girls didnt have a beautician that normally does there hair, so about 5 of us went to the salon with the bride.  For my wedding Im having a beautician come to where we are getting dressed and do all of the girls hair mainly because all of them will be from out of town and need someone to do their hair.

Talk to your girls and see what would be best for them.

I had my hair and makeup done by a family friend at my parents house and my SIL and MIL wanted to get theirs professionally done so they went together and had it done in a salon, then my other BM's just did their own hair. I think it's just about talking with your ladies and figuring out what works for them and what works for your budget/vision!

I gave my BM the choice of where they wanted to go in case someone has a special hairstylist they wanted. They all wanted to come to the salon I was going to, so we booked appts for all my girls and it was SO much fun! We had mimosas and croissants. They each paid for there own. I have to say, it was one of my favorite moments on my wedding day. Just me and my girls getting dolled up.

It's up to you, I gave my girls the option to get their hair done by the hairdresser doing mine or to do their hair on their own. But I wasn't able to pay for their hair to get done w/ gifts and other expenses. So that's why I gave them the choice.

I have a MUA and hairstylist coming to our venue to do me and the WP. They are choosing what to do with their hair. I am paying because it's not that expensive

It all depends on what you'd prefer and whether you want your girls to have options!  I think you'll find a mixture of answers as to what can be done with respect to this part of the wedding planning!

For our wedding, the girls all had their hair and makeup done, which they paid for, in addition to paying for their gowns.  Alternately, I paid for their accessories - hair fascinators and jewelry.  :)
