Brownies

So I found a really great recipe called French Chocolate Brownies from the NY Times because we had a little brownie party at work. I've made some more since I had ingrediants left over and as they're currently baking in the oven, I thought, "Hmm, I wonder if anyone has considered brownies in lieu of a wedding cake? Cupcakes are a big trend right now, why not brownies?" Has this thought crossed anyone's mind?

And I have to say, the recipe is incredibly simple for making brownies from scratch. I have never done this before, I usually use a mix because I rarely bake. But they turned out soooooo delicious. =) Definitely would recommend this for people who want homemade taste, but aren't great bakers. Just be sure to have a mixer.

We are doing a dessert buffet instead of a cake...each guest has their pick of these ten choices (or can choose, more than one, if they like):

~Gooey Macadamia Nut Tart~
~Big Island Vanilla bean Cr?me Brulee~
~Flourless Chocolate Decadence~
~Maui Strawberry Angel Food Cake~
~Tropical Carrot cake~
~Lilikoi (Passionfruit)Cheesecake~
~White Chocolate Cheesecake~
~Original Hawaiian Chocolate Cheesecake~
~Pineapple Tarte Tatin~
~Lilikoi (Passionfruit)Pot a Cr?me~

YUMMO! My fav is Cr?me Brulee and FI loves the Mac Nut Tart (like pecan pie, but mac nuts instead) and we both LOVE the Flourless Chocolate Decadence Cake (which is dense like a brownie).

The best part? It is only costing us $10 pp to add this option, vs. bringing in a cake, which was $12 pp after paying the cutting fee, etc. And my FI doesn't really like cake, so it was a no-brainer for us to choose the dessert buffet option.

I have thought about brownies or even a chocolate fountain with fruits, but DH can't eat chocolate 'cuz he breaks out very easily. Plus I am sure a lot of the guests are not crazy about chocolates either. That's why we didn't do it.

Dessert buffets are so much better than cakes IMO. People get to eat what they want and as much as they want. I've seen too many slices of cake go to waste and get thrown away when people don't eat them.

Is the trend away from cakes mainly to give people more options when it comes to dessert? I personally like wedding cake, but I know I'm in the minority.
