Buying Dress Sight Unseen?

Did any of you ladies purchase your dress online, or buy a dress without trying it on?

No, No and big NO!!!! I was going to do that at first but when I was chatting with the online person about all the restrictions on returns if it did not fit and how different the size chart is, I couldn't do it.  And I was going to also get a dress from David's Bridal that I loved online, but when I went to try it on, I looked like a crocheted toilet topper. Lmbao!  It was an online only dress but they had one in the store, so I went to try it on. So glad I did because I would have been crying rivers I hated that dress on me so much.

I did this, but I would certainly NOT recommend doing so!  I knew I was taking a huge chance by not going to a boutique to try on dresses to see what would look good, and fortunately it worked out for me, but I know it doesn't happen that way all the time.

I'm not sure if I did this. I tried on my gown at the store then sent pictures to Dressilyme.com and they custom made it. I tried it on when they sent it. It was kinda short for me but that was my fault. I didn't take into account heels but it was good! I love my dress. I'll only wore it once (well again for my AHR) and my mom bought it so I didn't want her to spend 800 on the actual dress. It was what I wanted. I wasn't too picky. I think if your picky about it then buy it in store but I'm not a girly girl so I just wanted the basics and they did a great job!

I did, but I got a STEAL on the dress, so I just figured if it didn't fit, I'd just re-sell it.  I mean, I got it CHEAP.  I wouldn't do it if it was a significant amount of money and I wouldn't be able to return it.

I DID! I fell in love with a dress that wasn't carried in any of the local bridal salons (up to 100 miles away from my house either) and it was out of my price range. I tried on other dresses, but I didn't love any of them the way I did when I just looked at a picture of the original dress I wanted. Then I heard about netbride.com. They act as the go-between for you and the designer, offering major discounts so you don't pay retail. I looked at the designers size chart and purposefully ordered a dress 1 size bigger than my measurements. I paid a little less than half the retail price as well. It was a wonderful experience! My dress came in with the designers labels and tags attached, brand new. And I got it in less than 4 months.

I did. I fell in love with a gown that was carried at Priscila of Boston (which closed down recently) and I found the gown online. There was a no hassle return policy if you returned in within 3 days. It worked out perfectly for me. I say go for it BUT only if they have a good return policy, that way you have nothing to lose.

Thanks for your input ladies! Haha, you noticed that, eh K? Sooo here's the thing: as some of you may know I tried on a dress that I thought was the one (again...buh) BUT I think I got caught up in the moment because my mom was finally able to make it to an appt. Though it is a lovely dress, and some parts are very "me"...looking back, I just find it really plain. I am a really fun person, and I just don't think that it really did that part of me justice. That being said, I did in fact, fall in love with the leopard print dress, but I would never attempt to pull off leopard print. You are able to customize the gown...so I messaged and asked about making it a corset back and have it go down to the bum, like the one I tried on so it would be slimming on my hips. As for the details underneath, I was thinking a print such as:

Thanks for your input photo 3379857-1 or: Thanks for your input photo 3379857-2

(both colours would go with my wedding colours since I am just using black grey and white thus far). Soooo ya....thoughts? I would also be saving over $400.

<----yours truly did!

I totally took a gamble and it paid off - because of it, I was able to walk down the aisle in a couture designer silk gown instead for $130 instead of paying $2,000 for one in the bridal salon.

It sounds like you have a great handle on your sense of style and what you want, those prints are awesome!

I did! I ordered this dress from Nordstroms, only because I loved the way it looked but they didnt have it in stores to try it on, AND Nordstroms has an amazing return policy. So I tried it on with other dresses and I thought I would love the ivory color, but it ended up being waaaay too dark of a beige on me. So I returned it no problem - but I had to know !

I didn't try mine on either!!  The sample was a size 4 (no where NEAR my size), so I at least got to see it in person. :)  It was so worth it for me, but definitely risky!

Siouxzan & mrandmrsross are you glad you went that route?

K- haha, I'm glad you like it! Ya, I figured it would be more "me" that way. I am seriously considering this. Aaaand my mom is seriously considering murdering me, haha.

NO, no, no!  Unless you can get it extremely cheap and sell it if you don't like or the store has a good return policy and you have lots of time before your wedding.  I went to a bridal store, saw a dress in their catalog that they didn't carry in that store and fell in love.  I ordered it sight unseen and waited 6 months to get it.  When it arrived I HATED it- I did get store credit to reselect but because my wedding was less than 2 months away at that point I had to choose something they had in stock.

I would totally do it! I am a risk taker with clothes, though. I purchased my reception dress from Ebay for 10 bucks. I loved it and it fit me perfectly. GL!

I dressed myself with a very plain dress from jcrew.com(item 63050) that were absolutely beautiful on me because it fit with my personality, lots of lace and embellishments on me would look out of place.

Yep i did. I bought online thru a place called inweddingdress, but I tried on the same dress in store before my order. The reason I ordered it online because it was such a bargain and also I trust the people who i buy from(ordered prom dress from them). I’ll update with actual dress pictures when I get the dress but this is the dress I ordered!
