It's risky but other girls here have done it.

I did it. I got a great deal and I loved the dress on the model but I never tried it on before I bought it. I wish I would have seen it on myself first but I am working with what I have.

I would go try on dresses first (if you haven't already) to see what styles flatter you the best before you buy anything online.

See if they will let you return it first in case it isnt what you want when you see it in person. If they don't, you can always sell it :) I'll end up buying mine online

i bought my "commitment ceremony" dress online.. on eBay actually. the description said size 4 when I purchased. I checked the measurements to make sure they would fitvmy own. it is a strapless, sweetheart deep v neck line with a full ball gown. it was said to fit a person who would wear a size 0-2 in regular dresses & that it ran small .. also that since it being a corset top would fit anyone between a size 0-8 (adjusting the corset ties of course)
to my dismay.. the seller had changed the description after i had bought it (luckily only $220) to a size 4-6. this worried me, because I had written to her, giving my exact measurements & she had promised a "perfect fit".

a perfect fit my butt. when the dress arrived, i tried it on as soon as possible and was alarmed to discover that not only did the corset top not tie tight enough, i would need size E boobs from the full C i have, and it was also too big around the entire torso area (which was "boned") and hung way lower on my hips than what the pictures showed. it looked like a completely different dress. totally upset. luckily i didn't end up having my planned commitment ceremony, as my now fianc? was planning to propose & it was just a ploy.

however, i wrote to the seller telling them
they needed to be more accurate in the description.. and not to change sizes once determined, also stating that the perfect fit i was ensured was not so perfect.. hoping for a return & my money back. this did not happen.

I took extreme caution before purchasing, making sure that the dress would be to as close to my size as possible.. and if the seller wasn't a complete liar, it would have been a beautiful gown.. maybe. but, unfortunately there are manipulative people in the world who really don't care if they screw up dometimg as important as a wedding gown.

but, this does give me the opportunity to cut it up, sew it up and add to the already creation to make it the gown of my dreams.. which will in the end be a lot cheaper than having a custom gown made for me. so that, i AM excited about.

I would just be very careful.. buyi g in the web.. but you do have the option of having it altered, so if anything, buy LARGER than your normal size... that way you're safe.
good luck!!

ps. and if you ate good with a sewing machine or needle & thread.. or just like to be creative... you DO have that option. you don't need to worry about "messing up" because it's YOUR gown, and adding your own touches might make it extra special. that's just coming from a girl who would rather do things her self.. too make sure they're perfect.
i've tried on many many dresses, and i'd rather make my own any day.. so my $220 mistake just might turn out to be the dress of my dreams.
;)

Good advice, ladies!

I will fully support the site I am buying my dress from...I've heard from many happy brides who've bought from this designer (and yes, designer, not dresses from China made to be cheap for American brides) and been in contact with their sales reps.

Dolly Couture rules!

(the last photo is my friend Rebecca, who recommended the site to me about 1.5 days after I got engaged.)

This is the dress I'm ordering:

Yeah I hope it looks half that good on me.  :)

Her prices start at $395, so if short is what you're looking for (and it's getting to be very popular!), Dolly's your girl.  :)

I would try some on in  store first to see what you feel good in then check reviews and the return policy for the online store before buying :)

I bought from ebay.  Between the feedback and buyers protection I figured I was covered.  The dress came and it fit perfectly, but it didn't look on me like it did in the picture.  So I'm having it altered.

Definitely check for a return policy first thing.

I bought my gown online! I purchased my gown from netbride.com. They cut out the middleman and act as the go between for you and the designer. You get actual designer gowns, new, with all appropriate tags and labels at deeply discounted prices. My dress retails for $1,287.95 and I bought it from netbride for $620! And that price includes the shipping. I so love my dress. It's hanging in the other bedroom. Sometimes I just go drool over it, lol.

I'm ordering my dress from www.jasminesbridalshop.com they have great reviews and fantastic communication. (I have been talking with them but I'm not ready to order yet).

There is a site that was recommended by another PW bride. I found it to be very helpful in my decision making. Good luck!

I ordered a evening gown from dresslyme.com and I couldn't be happier with it. The quality of the fabric is awesome and the dress is breathtaking. It has a lot of beading on the upper body. I changed the style of the beads 5 time. After every change they sent my pics and I could agree or not. And for a price noone can provide!

Here are some pics of it. FOI I received lots of compliments on the dress and noone could believe it was so low priced for and evening dress (only 170 $).
